HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-20-1954 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Illinois July 202 1954 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M. with Mayor pro-tem Moore presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Cook and Klobuchar. Absent: Alderman I'filler and Coleman and Staley. On motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Cook, reading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with, by a viva voce vote. Alderman Smith, chairman of the Legal and Police Committee, reported that the committee with the City Attorney, had decided not to allow claim presented by Attorney Geo. Proctor, in behalf of Earl Weaver, for fine of $15.40 paid to the Police Magistrate. Communication from the Department of Public Health Division of Sanitary Engr. giving the city their approval of the plans and specifications for the proposed improvements to water main extensions to Park Plasa addition, was accepted and ordered filed. Ordinance entitled "Regulating Traffic on East Ply rtle St." was read the second time. It was moved by Alderman Klobuchar, seconded by Alderman Smith, to place the ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderm,, Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Smith, Linder, 6kinner, Tink, Cook and "lobuchar. RAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried and ordinance passed, being Ordinance No.216. Alderman Miller comes in, and Alderman Staley comes in. Ordinance entitled "Alderman Salary" was read the second time. It was moved by Alderman Skinnet,rseconded by Alderman Cook, to table the Ordinance. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Moore, Lundry, Skinner, Ti.nk, Cook. NAY: Alderman Duncan, Miller, Smith, Linder, Staley and nlobuchar. Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Linder, to hold the ordinance over until the next meeting. Roll-call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Staley and "lobuchar. NAY : Alderman Tink and Cook. The chair declared the motion carried. Ordinance entilled "Introducing Fluoride into the City's Water System" was read the second time. Alderman Cook moves, seconded by Alderman Duncan, to table the Ordinance. Roll-call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Skinner, `rink, Cook, and Klobuchar. NAY: Alderman Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder and Staley. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman Smith, to hold the Ordin- ance over until the next meeting. Roll-call Vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Ounca n, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coop, Staley and Klobuchar. Ordinance entitled "Regulating Traffic-stop signs at 11th and Ash St." was read the first time. It was moved by Alderman Klobuchar2 seconded by Alderman Smith to suspend the rules. It was moved by Alderman Klobuchar, seconded by Alder- man Smith to place the ordinance on its passage. The ch�jir declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 217. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman Cook, to refer tl-e bids on Garbage Truck to the Garbage committee to check on and report back. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman Daftan, the Water dept. be authorized to purchase a new I.H. C. truck, who were low bidders. Roll call vote!
