With Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and Puskarich. Absent: Alderman Coleman. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. The following claims were presented, and ordered paid when funds are available. Request of former Chief of Police, Oames Smith, for two weeks vacation pay, was on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Sebree, granted by unanimous vote. Alderman Moore is excused. Adams ,o.- -2.80 �D Communication from the Police and Fire Commission, informed the Council of the apr_oi.ntment of Kenneth Lindzey Acting Chief of Police for the month of January, 1954. It was moved by Alderman Duncan, seconded by Alderman Sebree, to accept the report of the Commission and place same on file by a viva voce vote. It was moved by Alderman Klobuchar, seconded by Alderman Cook, the Claims committee investigate claim of the Canton Tire & Vulc. Co. for tire allegedly damaged by street manhole cover, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. On motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Cook, the Legal Dept. take action to recover as much money as possible, for share-crop basis at the Sewage plant, and the motion carried unanimously on roll call vote. Ordinance entitled "Excavation permits" was read for the second time. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman Staley to place the Drdinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, uncap, Lundry, killer, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Cook, and Staley. NAY: Alderman Tink, Klobuchar and Puskarich. the Chair declared the motion carried and ordinance passed, being Ordinance No.193• On motion of Alderman Skinner, seconded by Alderman Duncan, the Council complimented the Mayor on his recent statement to the C nton Ledger in answer to- criticism of the Vehic:,.e Tax, On motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Duncan, the City ngr., Street Supt., and City Attorney, were instructed to have drafted an Ordinance, the rate per foot to be charged plumbers for replacing pavement by the city on street openings, and the motion carried. Resolution appropriating from the Motor fuel Tax Fund, the sum of $14,925.60 for maintenance of arterial streets for the year 1954, was on motion of Alderman Skinner, seconded by Alderman Puskarich, adopted by unanimous roll call vote. Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Miller, the Traffic committee investigate the possibility of placing a stop-sign on Walnut and Ave. D. and remove one at 7th & Ash, and report back, and the motion carried unanimously.
