HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-01-1953 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Illinois. Dec. 1, 1953. A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:00 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and Puskarich. Absent: None. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. On motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Duncan, the reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. Ordinance entitled "Unlawful to park on the west side of N. First Avenue, from Locust St. to Birch Street" was read for the second time. It was moved by Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Duncan, to amend the ordinance to read the East Side of N. First Avenue. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, `'oleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and Puskarich. NAY: None It was then moved by Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Smith, to place on its passage, Ordinance as amended to read the east side of N. First Avenue. Roll call vote: AAYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moorek Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook, Staley. Klobuchar and Fuskarich. NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 189. Ordinance entitled "Fees of Chief of Police and Officers" was read for the second time. It was rmved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Cook, to place the ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree Dcan Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, .Cook, globuchar and Puskarich. NAY: None. �he chair declared the motion carried and ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 190. 92 Ordinance entitled "4-way Stop at N. 8th and E. Chestnut St." was read for the first time. It was moved by Alderman Skinner, seconded by Alderman Staley, to suspend the rules req'uiring the Ordinance be read the second time. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Smith, Linder, Skinner, T ink, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and Puskarich. NAY: Alderman Miller. It was moved by Alderman Cook, seconded by Alderman Staley, to place on its passage Ordinance entitled "4-way Stop at N. 8th and E. Chestnut St.". Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink„ Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and Puskarich. NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 191. Ordinance entitled "Appointment of C, ief of, Police" was read for the first time. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Linder, an Ordinance be pre°-ared and submitted, providing that in the future, the Chief of Police need not be appointed from the regular police force. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Moore, Lundry, Smith, Linder, Coleman, Staley and Puskarich. NAY: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Miller, Skinner, T ink, Cook, Klobuchar. Being a tie vote, the Mayor voted AYES Ordinance "Annexing certain territory to the City of Canton" was read for the first time. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman Tink, an order of 50 additional meters sent ax to the City by the Rockwell Mfg. Co., over the amount contracted for, be retained. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, 'rink, Coleman, Cook, Klobuchar and Puskarich. NAY: Alderman Staley. The chair declared the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Duncan, seconded by Alderman Sebree, that k1r. Uuy Willians, be granted two parking spaced on the west side of the square, for a pop-corn stand. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Staley and Puskarich. NAY: Alderman Miller, smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook and Klobuchar. AYE:-6. NAY-8. The chair declared the motion lost.
