HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-08-1953 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Ill. April 8, 1953. A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M. with l'layor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand, Tink, Cook, St. Clair and Klobuchar. Absent: Alderman Blackaby and Terpening. 'd were allowed and ordered paid when funds are available and the motion carried by unanimous r)l.l call vote. The following officer's monthly reports were submitted: Chief of Police; rjldg. ''omm; City -ngr; Supt of Streets. Water oc Sewer Dept; Plumbing Inspector; Water Treatment Plant; Sewer Treatment plant; and City Treasurer. On motion of Alderman St. glair, sec ,nded by Alderman 'land, the reports were accepted and oredeed, placed on file. 1 1 A communication from the Order of the rurple Heart, requested permission of the Council to have the priviledge of using one odrking space for a Gun and Knife Display. It was moved by Alderman Hand, seconded by Alderman Skinner, to grant the request and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. It was moved by Alderman nlobuchar, seconded by Alderman Linder, the Mayor employe a Dog Catcher on the same basis as last year, or !G2.00 per head, with a 30-day time limit and the motion earried by a viva voce vote. Kenneth Atwell of the Ground Observer Patrol requested the City contribute toward the cost of lighting at the post in the Athletic nark. Tt was moved by Alder- man Moore, seconded by Alderman hand, to refer this matter to the Light committee to study and investigate and report back at the next tmeting and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. Alderman St. Clair moves, seconded by Alderman Ploore, the City Clerk advertise for bids on 210 Water meters, bids to be received until April 22nd and o-ened at that time. Roll call vote: AYE: Xlderman Sebree, i`'oore, 'Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand, Tink, -1 Cook, St. Clair and Klobuchar. NAY: None. Alderman Jones moves, seconded by Alderman ""oore, that all absent aldermen be -" marked present. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand, link, Cook, St. Clair and Klobuchar. Nay:Vone. It was moved by Alderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Moore, to re-advertise t for bids for improvements at the waterworks, bids to be received until May 19th. poll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Band, Tink, Cook, St. Clair and rlobuchar. NAY : none. Alderman St. Clair moves, seconded by Alderman Jones, the Finance committee and Street 61 Alley committee consider petition of street employees and water ' sewer day laborers, for Lncrease in salary, and the motion carried by unanimous viva voce vote. It was moved by Alderman St. glair, seconded by Alderman Hand to leave on table Ordinance entitled "Ordinance regulating traffic-loads". The motion carried by the following roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree Moore Jones Skinner, Linder, Hand, Tink, Cook, St. Clair and Klobuchar. NA' none. The chair declared the motion carried. Alderman Hand moves, seconded by Alderman Moore, the Traffic committee and Police committee have installed signs directing track travel on the square and one block from the square and the motion carried by a viva voce vote.
