A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Canton, held this day convening at the hour of 7:00 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Linder, Rand, Tink, Cook and Klobuchar. Absent : Alderman Skinner, Terpening and St.Clair. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. The following claims for time worked at the sewer plant during vacations: were presented: i Fred Butkovich- - - - - - - -$125.00 Roy Kirkpatrick - - - - - - -$125.00 George Smith- - - - - - - - -4125.00 Floyd Hammond- - - - - - - - $147.50 Fred Butkovich- - - - - - -$ 95.00 for extra labor It was moved by Alderman Hand, seconded by Alderman Cook, to allow the claims 171 and pay same before the end of the year and the motion carried by unanimous vote. It was moved by Alderman Klobuchpr, seconded by Alderman Linder, to grant request of Mr. Jarnigan for an extra stall for taxi stand, and remove the next meter to the west for this purpose. The motion carried by the following vote: AYR: Alderman Sebree, Blacksby, Moore, Jones, Linder, nand, Tink, Cook and Klobuchar. Communication from the Division of highways regarding the widening of Route 9 to Banner and Route 78 to Norris, was read. The matter was referred to the Street & Alley Committee, Board of Local Improvements and City Attorney to study and report back. The City Engineer was instructed to check on bad conditions of sidewalks in the business district and Report back. Resignation of Don MacPhee as police magistrate was accepted on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Hand, by a viva voce vote. Resolution directing the County Clerk not to extend t4xes for interest and principal for the year 1953, for the waterworks $250,000 Bonds, as passed by Ordinance on August 7, 1951, was on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alder- man Linder, adopted by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, _�lackaby, Moore, Jones, Linder, Hand, Tink, Cook and Klobuchar. NAY: none. The following resolution was submitted: BE IT RESOLVED B' THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS : That Tuesday, February 24, 1953, be and the same is hereby designated as the date for a Primary Municipal Election, and April 21, 1953 for a General Municipal Election, in the City of Canton, for the purpose of nominating and electing the following officials: Mayor, City Glerk, City Treasurer, Police Magistrate, one Alderman in the Fist Ward for a four-year term; one Alderman in the Second Ward for a four-year term; one Alderman in the Third ward for a four-year term; one alderman in the Third ward for a two-year term to fill vacancy; one Alderman in the Fourth ward for a four-year term; one Alderman in the Fifth ward for a four-year term; one alderman in the Sixth Ward for a four-year term; one Alderman in the Seventh Ward for a four-year term. The following places for holding said elections are hereby designated as follows : First Ward: Wright School, E. Spruce and N. First Ave. Second Ward: Joan Dean School, Ave.B and West Vine St. Third Ward: Hulit School, West Chestnut and Ave. C. Fourth Ward: Kellogg School, 534 S. Third Ave. Fifth Ward: High S chool, 153 W. Maple St. Siatth Ward: Anderson School, 200 Blcok S. Seventh Ave. Seventh Ward: McCall School, 745 E. Locust St. The following persons are hereby appointed as judges and clerks of said primary and general election: First Ward: Judges: Mrd. D. McKay, Beftine Mitchell, Mrs. Earl "wings. Clerks: Mina Smith, Emma Weed. Second Ward ;Mable Nelson, Robert Dewey, Leona Blackaby Clerks: Rose Nebbelin, Pauline Essex i L._ ..._. 5 Third Ward: Judges: Clem Hulit, Blanche Whitehead; Mrs. Clyde Duncan Clerks : Mrs. Mary Frazier, Mrs. Florence Patterson Fourth Ward: Judges: Mrs. Carl Beckner, Mrs. Grace Ford, Mrs. Pauline Brown Clerks : Mrs. Vivian Ashton, Cecil Comingore. Fifth Ward: Judges : Melvin Anderson, Mrs. Melvin Anderson, Mrs. Bert Buchen Clerks: Marybelle O'Brien, Mrs. Grace Huffman Sixth Word: Judges: Orvil Nebergall, Wm. Lewis, Mrs. Frank Campbell Clerks: Minnie Miller, Mrs. Jessie Cubtis. Seventh Ward: Judges : Lee Vance, C. Bert Ball, Mrs. Del Smith Clerks : Marjorie Richards, Cora Ashby. Be it further resolved that the City Clerk of the City of Canton, is hereby authorized and directed to give such notice and to do and perform all other acts necessary to perform to provide for the holding of said elections in manner and form as prescribed by law. It was moved by Alderman Blackaby, seconded by AldermanJones, to adopt the resolution. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Linder, Hand, Tink, Cook and Klobuchar. NAY: None. It was moved by Alderman Cook, seconded by Alderman Blackab ;, the absent Alderman be marked present, and the motion carried unanimously. On motion of Alderman Blackaby, seconded by Alderman Cook, the meets adjounned. City Clerk
