HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-18-1952 Council Meeting Minutes 46 j Canton, Illinois Nov. IP, 1952. A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:00 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand, Tink, Cook St . Clair and Klobuehar. Absent: Alderman Terrening Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. It was moved. by Alderman Hand., seconded by Alderman Sebree, the Mayor and 3 City Clerk, be empowered to enter into contract with the Rockwell Mfg. Co. for the purchase of 54 water meters, with three shipments of 18 meters each. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Alackaby, Sebree, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, 'Rend, Tink, Co*., St. Clair and. Klobuchar. 'RAY:Nbne. Communication from Foward Griffin, secretary to Police & Fire Commission , informed. the council of their appointment of RichP.rd Allen Smith as police patrolman for a 60 day probation reriod.. It was moved by Alderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Cook to accept the appointment and place the letter on file, and carried. The Mayor submits for approval by the council the name of Rldhard Smith for police patrolman on probation. It was moved by Alderman Cook, Seconded by Alderman Klobrebar to appr.ovP the appointment, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. It wFs moved by Alderman Hand, seconded by Alderman Linder, the Ma.,gor and City Clerk be authorized to enter into contract with the Wallace & Tiernan Co. for a 40# Chlorinator at a price of $1895.00 less trade-in on old machine of $195.00, which is an emergency, and to be paid. from the Weter Depreciation F4md . . The motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Oscar Millison auks permission for use of the floor to address the council. On motion of Alderman Moore, seconded. by Alderman Linder, Mr. Millison was eranted permission to address the council,by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby; Jones, SI-inner, Linder, Nand, Tink, St. Clair and. Klobuchsr. NAY: Alderman Moore And Cook., Mr. Millison then takes the floor and addressed the council . Resolution appropriating from the Motor Fuel Tax Rinds, the following sums of money for the payment of Public Benefit Judgments was presented: 21-c.s.- - - - - -$14,894.50 3o-C.S.- - - - - -$13,606.0o 31-C.S.- - - - - -$ 7,364.28 32-C.S.- - - - - -$ 2,556.00 33-0 S. - - - - -$ 3,154.00 It was moved by Alderman St . Clair, seconded by Aldermen Linder, to adopt the resolution and the motion carried. by a unanimous roll call. vote. Alderman Jones, moves, seconded by Alderman KlobuehPr, the City Treasurer Invest snrplus monies in the water department in Loan Companv investments which lay'"titPrPSt from 2`�, to 34, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. With, reference to Toning turrdtottneut"ulding the new High School district, Mr. Oral Strode, spoke in behalf of the School Board; Supervisor Jim Shaw for the County; Al Painter for real estate and John K. Thomas in behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, all. being in favor of zoning. It was moved by Alderman Jones, seconded by Alderman 'Rand, the Zoning and Plan- ning Ordinance submitted to the Council on Dec . 6, 1949, be taken off the table and put in the hands of the OrdApance Committee. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Linder, Hand, Tink, St . Clair and KlobnehAr. NAY: Alder man Skinner and Cook. The chair declared the motion carried. On motion of Alderman St . Clair, seconded by Alderman Skinner, the meeting adjourned. C 1
