M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed, the following present: Alderman Sehree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones , Skinner, Linder, Fand, Tink, Cook, St. Clair and Klobuchar. Absent: Alderman Terne ning. i Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood. anrroved as read. Petition for referendum for employment of a municipal band, reauesting the question be presented, at the next general election November 4, 1952, was on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Linder, referred to the City Attorney to Investigate the legality of same and report back at the next meeting. Comm; Water & Sewer Dept; Water Treatment Plant; City Trea.s; Treas. of Fire Dept; Sewage Plant. On motion of Alderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Moore, the reports were accetned and ordered placed on file. Communication from the Police and Fire Commissioners, requesting the Council take action to appoint Lester Smith as Dest Sergeant, if possible, so they he may be eligable to bp under the Civil Service Commission, was on motion of Alderman Jones, seconded by Alderman Cook referred to the Police and. Legal committee, by a viva voce vote. ' An Ordinance authorizing the execti.tion of an AATmrmWmt with the C. I P. S. Co. for electrical energy* for Municipality Pumping was read for the second time. It was moved by Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Nlohucba.r, to n1acA the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call. vote: AYE, Alderman Sebree, Alackaby, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Rand., Tink, Cook, St. Clair and Rlobuchar. NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance Mo.171. Request of the Chamber of Commerce for the nriviledge to use South Main St. from Elm to Pine St. , on Aug. 14th, for the purpose, of holding a "Pet-Paralke" and Soua.re dance, was on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded. by Alderman Cook, pranted.. Request of the Junior Chamber of Commerce for permission to use the Fast Side of the Square, Sept. 1R, 19 and 20th, to pot on a "Merchants Show", was on motion of Alderman Cook, seconded by Alderman Tink, -rpnted by a viva voce vote. Request of the Grandmother's Club to use S. Main St. for their "Fomecoming" on the same days, was on motion of Alderman Rlohuchar, seconded. by Alderman Linder, granted by a viva vone vote. Request of representatives of the various Clubs in the city, that the City revise the Ordinances relative to operating hours, was on motion of Alderman Jones, seconded by Alderman Cook, turned over to the City Attorney and Ordinance Committee for further study, by the following vote: AYF: Alderman Sebree, Rlacl-aby, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Fand, Tink, Cook'.- St. Clair and klobuchar. NAY-None. On motion of Alderman Jones, seconded by Alderman Klobuehar, the Clerk was insturcted to open the one hid received for this date on Asn_ halt and Seat Coat. The bid submitted was then opened and read as follows: W. L. Miller Co. , Elvaston, Ill.: 15,000 or 40,000 Gal. of Road Oil---applied- - - -0.128 per gal. 1,500 tons of Gravel Seal Coat Ag•�-regate--annlied--® $1.15 1,500 tons of Rock Seal Coat Aggreftate----applied--* $1.Q0 On motion of Alderman St. Clair, seconded. by Alderman Flohuchp,r. , the bid was referred to the Stre6t & Alley Committee, by a viva voce vote. Mr. Hawk of the Illinois Traffic Safety Council, presented to the City a. pla.nue fat the second. year of no fatalities in the City of Canton. After reports of committee members relative to the bids received at a -nrevious meeting on the waterworks improvements, and the financing of same, it was moved by AldermanBlac Oyseconded. by Alderman Moore, the Water & Sewer committee investigate further into this matter, and. that the bids be held over. The motion carried by a viva voce vote. On motion of Alderman Rlobuchar, seconded by Alderman Cook, it was moved to adjourn this meeting until 7:00 P. M.
