HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-15-1952 Council Meeting Minutes 3 Canton, Illinois July 15, 1952 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M. With Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following »resent: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand, Tink, Ted, Cook, St. Clair and Klobuchar. Absent: Alderman Terpening. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. Petition of the Sinclair Refining Co, for permission to install two 2000 gal. 3 Underground storage tanks at Main and Olive St. , was on motion of Alderman Robu- itarv, seconded by Alderman Cook, granted by unanimous roll call vote. Request of the C. I. P. S. Co. to lay a 10# gas main from the Panhandle gas Station on 11th avenue to the west limits of Hickory street, and a gas tramsmission main from Hickory and first to the substation on VpBuren and Pine St . , was on motion of Alderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Cook, granted by roll call. vote. Request of the Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority to hold an ice-cream social in Jones Park on the afternoon and evening of July 1Qth, was on motion of Alderman Hand, seconded by Alderman Klobuchar, granted. Request of Arnold Walker for two-weeks vacation pay, was on motion ofAlder- man St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Skinner, granted by unanimous roll call vote. Ordinance entitled "Police Pension Fund" was read for the second time. It was moved by Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Blackaby, to place the ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYF: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand, Tink, Cook, St. Clair and Klobuchar. RAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried, and ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 169. Ordinance entitled "Annual Appropriation Bill." was read for the second. time. It was moved by Alderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Blackaby, to amend the Appropriation Ordinance, and insert into the Street & Alley appropriation, the stun of $4500.00 for oiling of streets. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand., Tink, Cook, St. Clair and Klobnchar. NAY: None. The chdr declared the motion carried and the amendment approved. _ It was moved by Alderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Moore, to place on its passage, the Annual Appropriation Bill as amended. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand, Tink, Cook, St. Clair and Klobuchar. NAY: none. The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, b-ing Ordinance No. 170. Ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement with the C. I. P. S. Co. for electrical energy for pumping was read for the first time. It was moved by Alderman Blackaby, seconded by AldermanSkinner, the Legal and Police department negotiate for a new car for use in the police department and report their findings at the next meeting of the city council, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. The Grandmothers Club requested use of S Main Street, for Saturday, in Sept., to hold a dance and homecoming. It was moved by Alderman St . Clair, seconded by Alder- man Cook, to grant them the use of South Main Street from Pine to Elm St. , and the motion carried unanimously. On motion of Alderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Moore, the City Clerk was directed to advertise for 4 cars of SE-3 Oil and necessary crushed stone for seal coat, for a number of streets in the city, bids to be received until August 5, 1952, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. On notion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Jones, the clerk was directed to open bids for improvements at the waterworks advertised for consideration on this date. The following proposals were submitted and read: Geo. S. Walker Plumbing, Decatur, Illinois- - - - - - - - -$144,847.00 A. F. Krall Const . Co. , Decatiur, Illinois-- - - - - - - - -$141,900.00 It was moved by Alderman Hand, seconded by Alderman St. Clair, the bids let be held over, for further consideration before the next council meeting, by the engineers, council members, mayor, City Attorney and contractors, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. On motion of Alderman Klobuchar, seconded by Alderman Moore, the absent councilman was ordered marked present.
