March 31st, 1981
A Special Meeting of the Canton City Council was held on March 31st
1981 in council chambers.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE OPENED THE MEETING, FOLLOWED BY THE INVOCATION
GIVEN BY MAYOR CROUCH.

Mayor Crouch asked for roll call at 7 :30 P.M. Present. Aldermen
Kovachevich, Williams, Selfridge, Carl ,, Grant, Clarke, Danner, Mot-
singer, Churchill . Absent: Aldermen Mazza , Horr.
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE DATE FOR INAGURATION
OF NEWLY ELECTED OFFICERS OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS. First
reading, read by title only.
Motion by Alderman Clarke second by Alderman Danner to suspend the rules .
Roll call . AYES: Aldermen Motsinger, Danner, Clarke, Grant, Carl ,
Selfridge. NAYS : Aldermen Churchill , Williams, Kovachevich. Voice vote,
motion carried. Discussion. The State Statutue states that during the
month of April following the proclamation of the results, the regular or
special meeting they will be seated, unless, the municipality passes an
ordinance stating it will be the first meeting in May.
The Legal & Ordinance committee upon review has recommended the drafting
of this ordinance. Mayor Crouch stated that we were notified by the
Illinois Municipal League that this problem existed .
Alderman Horr arrived at the Council meeting at 7 :40 P.M.
Motion by Alderman Danner, second by Alderman Clarke the ordinance be
placed on its passage. Discussion. Roll call . AYES : Aldermen Selfridge,
Carl , Grant , Clarke , Danner , Motsinger. NAYS : Aldermen Kovachevich,
Williams, Horr, Churchill . Motion carried . 6 ayes 4 nays 1 absent.

ADJOURNMENT: Motion by Alderman Danner, second by Alderman Clarke, to
adjourn . Vo ice vote, motion carried .rried . Council adjourned at 7 :49 P.M.
