ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 1 (ADMINISTRATION) CHAPTER 16 (CITY
ADMINISTRATOR) SECTION 1 (OFFICE CREATED; APPOINTMENT; TERM AND
QUALIFICATIONS) OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, Ordinance 1986 was adopted by the City of Canton on August 4, 2009,
amending Section 1-16-1 which provided for the residency of the City Administrator, and;
WHEREAS,the Legal and Ordinance Committee has reviewed the proposed amendment
and concur that it is in the best interests of the administration of the City of Canton, its
employees and citizens to maintain consistency in its administration and have the residency
requirement of the City Administrator follow the residency requirement as set for the City of
Canton's personnel policy;
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS as follows:
1. That Title 1 (Administration) Chapter 16 (City Administrator) Section (1) (Office
Created; Appointment; Term and Qualifications) of the Canton Municipal Code shall
be amended as follow:
1-16-1 c9t7
(A) Remains as written.
(B) Remains as written.
(C) To create a feeling of greater personal responsibility and to exhibit to the citizenry a
sense of concern for the welfare of the City, the City Administrator shall abide by
the residency requirement as set forth in the City's personnel policy during the
tenure as City Administrator. Neither the Mayor nor any member of the City
Council shall receive such appointment during their term of office.
PASSED by the City Council of the City Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular
meeting this 6th day of May, 2015, upon roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Ellis, Justin Nelson, Lovell, Hale, West, Putrich, Pickel
NAYS: None
ABSENT: Alderman Jim Nelson
