ORDINANCE N0. 1436
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A STOP SIGN AT THE INTERSECTION OF
EAST ELM STREET AND NORTH MAIN STREET IN THE CITY OF CANTON,
FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS.
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined
that it is necessary and in the best interest of the citizens of
Canton, Illinois to place a stop sign at the intersection of East
Elm Street and North Main Street in the City of Canton, Illinois;
and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar
determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That a stop sign shall be placed at the northeast corner
of the intersection of East Elm Street and North Main Street in
the City of Canton, Illinois, and, that every driver of a motor
vehicle approaching said intersection from the east shall bring
the vehicle under his or her control to a complete stop before
entering said intersection and shall only then proceed when a
safe interval occurs in traffic.
2. That the Street Superintendent shall post the
appropriate sign informing the public of this Ordinance.
3. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon
conviction, be subject to a fine of not less than Fifty Dollars
($50.00) nor more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) for each
such offense.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
ten (10) days after its passage by the City Council of the City
of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor
thereof, and publication in pamphlet form as provided by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 6th day of
September ~ 1994, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Molleck, Phillips, Sarff, Meade, Chapman,
NAYS: None.
