ORDINANCE N0. 1418
AN ORDINANCE RENAMING CERTAIN PORTIONS OF "WEST VINE STREET" AND
"WEST LOCIIST STREET" IN THE CITY OF CANTON
WHEREAS, the City of Canton, together with Fulton County is
preparing for implementation of a 9.1.1. emergency response
system; and,
WHEREAS, it is essential that each street in the city bear a
designation or name different from the names or designations of
other streets; and,
WHEREAS, it appears that there are two separate and distinct
streets both bearing the name "West Vine Street" and the same is
true for "West Locust Street"; and,
WHEREAS, it is desirable and necessary to rename portions of
the above-named West Vine and West Locust Street.
WHEREAS, the Legal & Ordinance Committee has determined that
it is necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton to
rename certain portions of existing city streets; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar
determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS as follows:
1. That the Canton City Council hereby finds the foregoing
recitals to be fact.
2. That hereafter the street beginning at the bridge on
West Vine Street which runs thence West over Big Creek and thence
running North of Westview School within the corporate limits a/k/a
County Highway 21 shall be known as "Old West Vine Street".

3. That hereafter the street located within Fairview
Heights addition to -the City of Canton and platted as Vine Street
shall be known as "Old West Vine Street".
4. That hereafter that portion of the street currently
known as Illinois Route g with the corporate limits West from its
intersection with North main Street shall be known as "West Locust
Street".
5. That the street beginning at the "Y" between the 600 and
700 blocks of said Route 9 and running thence in a northwesterly
direction until it again intersects with Illinois Route 9 shall
hereafter be known as "Old West Locust Street".
6. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of
Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
7. That as soon as practical after the adoption of the
ordinance, street signs shall be changed to reflect the names
adopted herein.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois at a regular meeting this lst day of
February, 1994.
AYES: Aldermen Coay, Molleck, Phillips, Sarff, Meade, Bohler, May,
Chapman.
NAYS: None.
