MAYOR EDWARDS and MEMBERS OF THE LEGAL AND ORDINANCE COMMITTEE of the city of
Canton:
First of all, the board of directors of the Canton Mausoleum Association want you to know
how much we appreciate your openness and your willingness to work with us in arriving at a long-
term solution to the maintenance of the mausoleum.
Those of us here tonight and the other members of our board of directors had hoped that
we could keep the Mausoleum Association going as a separate entity. However, we are aware of
the probability that the mausoleum building will again get into disrepair because of lack of interest.
When we met with you two months ago, you gave us a mandate to see if we could raise
money to roof the building. In the meantime, we have written letters and personally contacted
every crypt owner or heir or beneficiary of a deceased occupant. We are pleased to report tonight
that we have raised in this campaign the sum of $13,475.00. We have currently in our bank
account the sum of $2,480.18, for a total of $15,955.18.
We would like to tender to the city of Canton the entire mausoleum property, together with
the above-listed funds, to be used for the maintenance and upkeep of the building and property.
We believe it is in the best interests of all of us and the long-range interests of the city of Canton
that the city accept this offer.
