ORDINANCE N0._�
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SALARTES FOR UFF"ICERS
AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY UF CANTON, ILLINOIS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS:
Section 1 . ALDERMAN. Each Alderman shall receive an annual
salarp of Three Hundred�Dollars ($360.00) ; provided that if any
Alderman �hall miss more than two meetings per year, unless such ab-
sence is due to illness of the alderaran, serious illness of a member
of the alderman's imtnediate family, a death in the alderman�s imme-
diate familq, or other like cause, the sum of Fifteen Dollars ($15.00)
�hall be deducted from his annual salary for each meeting over two
meetings missed each year.
Section 2. CITY ATTORNEY. The Citp Attorney shall receive
an annual salary of Four� h�ou�sand 3`ix Hundred Eighty Dollars ($4,6�0.00)
and such other compensation as the City Council may provide by �rdi-
nance.
Section 3 . SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS. The Superintendent
of Streets shall receive an annual salary of ix Thousand Six Hundred
Thirty-four pollars ($6,634.00) .
Section 4. THE CITY ENGINEER. The Citp Engineer shall re-
ceive an annua.l salary of ine housand Two Hundred Thirty-eight Dol-
lars ($9,23$.00) .
Section 5. WATER AND S EWER DEPARTMENT. The Water Plant
Superintendent sh�ll receive an annual salary of Six Thousand Nine
Hundred Eighty-two Dollars ($6,9$2.00) .
The Chief Operator at the Sewage Dispo�al Plant shall receive
an annual �alary of Six Thou�and Six Hundred Thirty-four pollars
($6,634.00) .
Each Operator at the Water Treatment Plant and Sewer Treatment
Plant shall receive a salary of Ninety-three Dollars ($93 .00) per week
for the first thirteen weeks of his employment and the sum of Five
Thousand Four Hundred Forty-five Dollars ($5,445•00) for each year
thereafter.
The Cashier of the Water and Sewer Department shall receive an
annusl salary of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) .
Each Meter Reader shall receive an annual salary of Five
Thousand Three Hundred Thirty-nine Dollars t$5,339•00) .
Any part time Clerk of the Water and Sewer Department shall be
compensated for the work they perform at the rate of One Dollar Eighty-
eight cents ($1 .$$) per hour.
Section 6. PLUMBING INSPECTOR. The Plumbing Inspector shall
receiv• an annu�l salary of Six Thousand Six Hundred Thirty-four pol-
lars ($6,634.00� .

Section 7. PARK AND PUBLIC COMFORT STATTON CUSTODIANS. The
Park Custodian �hall receive an annual salary of hree housand Nine
Hundred Fifty-two Dollars ($3 ,95z.00) .
Z'he Public Comfort Station Custodian shall receive an annual
sal.�ry of Z�ro Thousand Nine Hundred �,renty-four pollars ($2,92l�.00) .
Section �. FIRE DEPARTMENT. The Chief of the Fire Department
shall receive an annual salary of ix Thousand Six Hundred Thirty-four
Dollars ($6,634.C10) .
Assistant Fire Chiefs shall receive an annual salary of Six
Thousand Thirty Dallars ($6,030.00) ; and each Fireman emplo ed by the
City shall receive a �alary of Ninety-three Dollars t$93 •D0� per week
for the first thirteen weeks of his employment and the �um of Five
Thousand Four Hundred Forty-five Dollars ($5,445•00) for eaeh year
thereafter. In addition to the above �alary each member of the Fire
Department shall receive an annual clothing allowance of Thirty Dol-
lars ($30.00j .
Section 9. POLICE DEPARTMENT. The Chief of Police shall re-
ceive an annual salary of Six hougand Six Hundred Thirty-four pollar�
($6,63t�.00) .
Each Sergeant shall receive an annual salary of Six Thousand
Thirty Dollars ($6,030.00) .
Each Policeman employed by the City shall receive a salary of
Ninety-three Dollars ($93 .00) per week for the first thirteen weeks of
his emplo ent and the sum of Five Thousand Four Hundred Forty-five
Dollars (�5,41r5.00) for each year thereafter.
The Meter Maid shall receive an annual salary of Three Thou-
sand �I�ne Hundred Fif�q-two Dollars ($3 ,952.00) .
The Night Police R.adio Operator shall receive an annual salary
of Four Thousand Seven Hundred Thirteen Dollars ($4,713 .00� .
The Dap Police Radio Operator shall receive an annual salarp
of Four Thousand One Hundred Eight Dollars ($l�, 10$.00) .
Awciliary Policemen employed by the City shall be compensated
for the work they perform at t he rate of One Dollar Eighty-eight cents
($1 .�$) per hour.
School Crossing Guards employed by the City shall be compen-
sated for the work they perform at the rate of One Dollar Thirty-eight
cents ($1 .3$) per hour.
In addition to t he above salary each member of the Police
Department shall receive an annual clothing allowance of Seventy-Fiv�
Dollars ($75.00) .
Section 10. SECRETARY TO THE I�IAYOR. The Secretary to the
Mayor shall receive an annual salary of Four Thousand Three Hundred
Forty-three Dollars ($�.,343 .00j ,

Section 11 . LABORS AND PART TIME EMPLOYEES. Each Laborer
permanentlp employed by the Water and ewer Department, the street
d�partment or Garbage Department shall receive an annual salar of
Five Thousand Three Hundred Thirty-nine Dollars ($5,339.00) . y
The Deputy City Clerk shall b� compensated for the work they
perform at the rate of One Dollar I�inety-two cents ($1 .92) per hour.
Enery person other than an elected official employed by
the City who shall perform work on Newr Yearg Day, Easter, Memorial
Daq, Fourth of July, Labor Day Thanksgiving Day or Christmas shall
receive pay of fifty per cent �5�i�) of his hourl
of not r�ore than four hours for each of said days;Pandf furtherriod
in event any laborer works more than forty hours in one week, he
shall receive overtime pay at the rate of time and one-half for each
hour he works.
Section 12. GARBAGE DEPARTMENT. The Sanitary Land Fill
�perator shall receive an annua salary of Six Thousand �wo Hundred
Forty Dollars ($6,240.00) .
Section 13. VACATION PAY AND SICK LEAVE.

(b) That the Superintendont of Streets, City Engineer, Pltunb-
ing Inspector Chief Operator of the Water Treatment Plant, Chief 0pera-
tor of Sewer �'reatment Plant, Chief of Police or Chief of the Fire De-
partment who have been employed by said City for a perio�t of not less
than one year nor more than fifteen years shall receive an annual vaca-
tion of two week� with pay, unless they have been employed by said City
for fifteen years or more when they shall receive an annual vacation of
three weeks with pay.
(c) Each employee who is unable to work because of illness
shall be paid his regular pay for a period of not more than ten days
for one year, which ten days period may accumulate for not more than
thirtq daqs over a three year period. f�nd each employee who has ac-
cumulated more than ten days sick leave who has not been absent be-
cause of illness shall have the right to receive his sick pay in cash
rather than have the accumulated days; provided, however, that this
section shall not apply or be in effect for any employees for less than
six months.
(d) That for the purposes of this Section the period for
which said year shall begin shall be the beginnfng of the fiscal year
of said City except for employ�es paid by the hour and as to them the
time they began their employment shall be �he beginning of the period
and their average hourlp pay shall be considered in determining the
amount of their vacation pay.

Section 14. REPEAL. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances
in anq way conflicting with this Ordinance be and the same is hereby
repealed.
Section 15. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be in
effect on and after the Sixth thj day of May A. D. 1966, and its
passage by the City Council and approval by the Mayor.
