BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL QF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILI.SNOIS:
SECTTON l. I�DOPTION OF HOUSING CODE. That certain documents, three
(3) copies o wh c are now and or more than thirty (30) days prior
hereto hava been, on fila in the ofPice of the City Clerk of the City
of Canton, Illinois for the use and examination of the public, being
marked and desigr�ated as the Buildin� Officials Conference of America,
Inc. Basic Housing Code, 196l� Edition, with supplements thereto, as
published by the Building Officials Conferenee of Ameriea, Inc. , be
and is hcreby adopted as the Housing Code of tha City oF Canton, in
the State of Illinois, for the control of health and housing stand-
ards as herein providad; and each and all of the regulations, provisions,
penalties, conditions, and terms of the Buildin� Officials Conference
of America, Inc. Basic Hausing Code, 1964 Edition, with supplements
thereto, are hareby referred to, adopted, and made a part hereof, as
if fully set out in this Ordinance, with the additions, insertions,
daletions and changes, if any, preseribed in Section 2 of this Ordin-
ance.
SECTION 2. ADDITIONS INSERTIONS DELETIONS AND CHANGES. That Saction

America, Inc. Besic Housing Code, 196�. Edition, with supplements
thereto, are hereby revised as follows:
Section H-1I2.0. Change section to read as f ollows:
Section H-112.0 EXISTING BUII,DINGS. This code astablishes
minimum requirements for the in t al and continued
occupancy of all buildin�s used for human habitation and
does nat replace or modify requirementa otherwiae eatablished
for the construction, repair, altaration, or use of
buildings, equipment or facilities except as pronided in
this section.
Section H-1�.1.0. Add new section to read as follows:
Section H-141.0. RIGHT OF APPEAL. Any owner or person who
ig a�grieved with the ru n� or c]ecision of the en.f'orcing
off icer, in anq matter relative to the interpretation or
enforcement of any of the provisions of the Housing Code may
appeal tha deeision or iMterpretation.
This appeal rnust be filed with the appropriate authority,
in writing, within thirty (30) days of the date of the
rendition of the decision or interpretation.
The appeal may be decidad by one oP the following methods
of procedura;
The municipality may appoint and establish an appeal
board of f ive C5) persons, qualif ied by education
and experience in thc building profession who shall
have the duty, responsibility and authority to
decide the matter raferred to them.

The matter mag be resolved by the normal procedure
for appeals by the appropriate courts of the various
governmental units.
The decisions of either body shall be sub�ect to the
appeal provisions as established by the appropriate
courts of the various governmental units.
SECTION 3. INCONSISTENT ORDINANCES REPEALED. That all other
Qrdinances or par s o rd nances o the C ty oP Canton, I11iMOis,
in conflict herewith are hereby repealcd.
3ECTION 1}. SAVIN'G CIrAIISE. That nothing in this Ordinance or in
the Building o es hera g adopted ahall be construed to affect
any suit or proceedin� impending in any court, or any rights
acquired or e�isting, under any act or Ordinanee hereby repealed
a� cited in Section 3 of this Ordinance; nor shall any �uat or
legal right or ramedy of any character be lost, imp aired or
affected by this Ordinance.
3�CTION 5. DATE OF EFFECT. This Qrdinance shall be in effect ten .
days after 3ts passa�a 9 the City Council, approval by tha Meyor
and publication according to law.
