ORDINANCE N0. ��
WHEREAS, it appears to the Cit� Cauncil of the City
of Canton, Illinois that there is a great need to construct
a sidewalk or sidewalks along State Bond Issue Route Number
78 to the Lincoln Grade School which abuts said Route� as there
will be many small children who attend said School who, unless
�aid sidexalk is constructed, would have to walk on said high-
way, which is a busy tharoughfare; and
WHEREAS, the Ordinances now in effect prov3de that new
sidewalks shall be constructed by special taxation levied upon
abutting landowners; and,
WHEREAS, parents and other persons who are not abutting
landowners, have represented to this Council that they are de-
sirous and will contribute money towards the construction of
said sidewalk in an amount which would appear to be greater
than could be a,ssessed a�ainst abutting landownera; and,
WHEREAS, since time is of the essence and since the
procedure to provide for special taxation is expensive to all
concerned, and the sidewalk probably could not be con�tructed
during the ensuing school year; and,
WHEREAS, in the opinion of this Council an emergency
e�i�ta.
BE IT THEREFOR� ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL 4F THE
CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS:
1. That in event an amount of money is raised by the
general public so that the expense to the City shall not be
greater than �7,500.�0, a sidewalk sh�ll be built on land de-
dicated to the People of the State of Illinois, alon� North
Niain Street from the existing sidewalk North to �ineoln School
without the neees�ity of constructin� the same by special tax-
ation.
2. This Ordinence shall be in effect from and after
its passage by the City Council and approval by the Ma,yor.
