A RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENTS TO THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN
THE CITY OF CANTON AND CANTON FIRE FIGHTERS, LOCAL 1897, I.A.F.F.,
A.F.F.I., AFL/CIO AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY
CLERK TO EXECUTE SAID AMENDMENTS ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the City of Canton entered into negotiations with the Canton Fire Fighters,
Local 1897 relative to the establishment of wages, benefits and other conditions of employment;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois approved said Agreement
on March 18, 2014;
WHEREAS, The Canton Firefighters, Local 1897, I.A.F.F., A.F.F.I, AFL/CIO,
requested that the negotiations be reopened to considered amendments to the residency
requirement and the language related to the high deductible healthcare plan contained in said
Agreement; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has determined that it is
necessary and in the best interest of the City to approve said Amendment.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the Agreement between the City of Canton and Canton Fire Fighters Local 1897,
which was approved on March 18, 2014, is amended and said Amendment, a copy of
which is attached hereto as Amendment A.
2. That the Mayor and City Clerk of Canton, Illinois are hereby authorized and directed
to execute and deliver said Amendment on behalf of the City of Canton.
3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by
the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and approval by the
Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular meeting
this 3rd day of June, 2014, upon a roll call vote as follows:

AMENDMENT 1 to the COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT
Between
THE CITY OF CANTON and
THE CITY OF CANTON FIRE DEPARTMENT,
LOCAL NO. 1897,INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE FIGHTERS
This Amendment to make certain changes, deletions, modifications and other revisions to
the collective bargaining agreement in effect from May l, 2014, through Apri130, 2017, between
the City of Canton ("City") and the City of Canton Fire Department, Local No. 1897,
International Association of Fire Fighters ("Department") is made by and between the City and
the Department, for itself and on behalf of its members.
WITNESSETH
In consideration of the mutual covenants herein contained, the parties hereto agree as
follows:
The Department has represented to the City that certain changes, deletions, modifications,
and other revisions to the parties' existing collective bargaining agreement ("CBA"), are
necessaxy and the parties have agreed to the changes, deletions, modifications and other revisions
of the CBA as set forth in this Amendment. The Article numbers below correspond to the
Articles in the CBA and specific changes to those Articles.
ARTICLE 11 COMMISSIONED OFFICERS' INSURANCE
After the second paragraph of Article 11.1 is amended to add the following language:
11.1. Payment
Effective June 1, 2014, the employee has the option to enter into the High Deductible Healthcare
Plan. The employee shall only pay the difference in cost between the High Deductible
Healthcare Plan premium and the employer's cost of the 80% of the respective Preferred
Provider Option premium. The difference between the total monthly premiums of the Preferred
Provider Option and the High Deductible Healthcare Plan shall be given to the employee as
taxable income or a pre-ta�� automatic payroll deduction to the employee's Healthcare Savings
Account. The employee shall always have the right to return to the Preferred Provider Option at
open enrollment or a qualifying event.
ARTICLE 22 RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
Article 22 is amended to read as follows:
22 Residency
Within 90 days after the expiration of an employee's probationary period, an employee shall
either reside within the city limits of the City of Canton or reside no more than 25 minutes from
the Fire Station located at 101 East Spruce Street. The twenty-five minute radius shall be
determined by using three mapping services, including Google Maps �, Yahoo Maps �, and
Mapquest �, including any successors or mergers of these three companies. As long as one of
the three mapping services has the location within 25 minutes, the location will qualify under this
Section.
IN WITNESS WHEREFOF, the parties hereto have executed and delivered the foregoing
Amendment in two duplicates copies, each or which is hereby declared to be an original for all
