ORDINANCE NO. 3069
WHEREAS, Ordinance 1914 (amending Ordinance 1467) was adopted on November 20,
2007, which provided for the allowance of chickens within the city limits of Canton, Illinois if
allowed otherwise in the zoning ordinances;
WHEREAS, Ordinance 1914 was codified and adopted as part of the Canton Municipal
Code at Title 6 (Police Regulations),Chapter 4 (Animals) Section 8(F) (Keeping, Breeding,
Caring for and Possessing Certain Birds and Animals);
WHEREAS, the Legal & Ordinance Committee has determined that Title 6 (Police
Regulations), Chapter 4 (Animals) Section 8(F) (Keeping, Breeding, Caring for and Possessing
Certain Birds and Animals) should be amended to clarify its meaning;
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has reviewed the proposed amendment
and concur that it is necessary and in the best interest of the administration of the City of Canton,
its employees and citizens;
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COLJNTY, ILLINOIS as follows:
1. That Title 6 (Police Regulations), Chapter 4 (Animals) Section 8(F) (Keeping,
Breeding, Caring for and Possessing Certain Birds and Animals) of the Canton
Municipal Code shall be amended insofar as Section 6-4-8(F) is concerned as follow:
6-4-8: KEEPING, BREEDING, CARING FOR AND POSSESSING CERTAIN BIRDS
AND ANIMALS:
(F) Farm Animals: Except as otherwise providing in the Canton Municipal Code,
all farm animals, including those classified as pets, shall be prohibited.
PASSED by the City Council of the City Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular
meeting this 17th day of June 2014 upon roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Justin Nelson, John Lovell, Craig West, David Pickel
NAYS: Aldermen Tad Putrich, Jim Nelson
ABSENT: Alderman Gerald Ellis
