RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CANTON
TO CHANGE THE TITLE OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR TO
PUBLIC RELATIONS COORDINATOR
WHEREAS, currently the City of Canton has a position described as the Community
Development Coordinator; and
WHEREAS, The City of Canton is establishing the position of Economic Development
Coordinator, and the that title's similarity with Community Development Coordinator could cause
confusion; and
WHEREAS, the duties as set forth in the position description of the Community
Development Coordinator relate to various relationships between the City and the public, and the
title "Public Relations Coordinator" better describes the position's activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved by the City Council of the City of Canton that
the title of Community Development Coordinator be changed to Public Relations Coordinator and
that, in all other respects, the position would continue with the duties set forth in the position
description as well as those assigned by the Mayor and City Council.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular
meeting this 18~day of September 2001, upon a roll call vote as follows:

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Public Relations Coordinator
Job Class: Professional Support
Date: 9/01
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Public Relations Director coordinates the City's
internal and external public relations including public notices and reports, advertisements
for bids as needed, for the Public Works Department, Zoning Department, Mayor and
Economic Development Office.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports directly to the Mayor
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinate activities with related activities of other local, state and federal agencies.
2. Provide information, demographics, resources and referrals to interested persons and
public agencies.
3. Represent the City before other entities, committees, organizations and other as
requested by the Mayor and/or City Council.
4. Promote the community and events therein in conjunction with other City departments
to improve and maintain the economic, human and physical environment of the citizens
of the City of Canton.
5. Develop creative means to promote local businesses and assist those businesses in
marketing and promotional ideas.
6. Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships to compliment the efforts of all of the
above-mentioned departments.
7. Prepare awards and assist in correspondence as requested by the Mayor and other
department heads.
8. Create monthly and annual reports for public works, wastewater treatment and zoning
departments.
9. Support the City's participation in community events and serve as City representative
on various community organizations.
10. Provide leadership in establishing and enhancing external public relations with
community organizations, government, business and industry.
11. Prepare news releases and public service announcements and conduct recorded
interviews on special events for Channel 3.
12. Administer, advertise and monitor residential sidewalk program
13. Prepare legal documents for loans and release of mortgages and other legal
documents as needed.
14. Prepare agenda for all council committee meetings, takes, transcribes and distributes
minutes of those meetings.
15. Prepare quarterly and semi-annual reports for the Illinois Enterprise Zone, DCCA
Revolving Loan Fund and the Rural Development Loan Fund and oversees the payment
of outstanding TIF Loans, Revolving Loans and Housing Rehabilitation Loans.
16. Scheduling for the use of the Historic Depot.
17. Secretarial duties for Wastewater Treatment Plant, Public Works Department
Economic Development Office and Zoning Office.
18. Provide other duties as assigned by the Mayor.
19. Update community profile annually for DCCA & Ameren
20. Develop information packets to mail to prospective businesses and others interested
in the community.
21. Work confidentially with prospective businesses.
22. Receive complaints for public works and notify proper departments.
23. Maintain accurate files and documents as related to scope of work.
