AN ORDINANCE RESCINDING AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A
HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE ON THE WEST SIDE OF SOUTH MAIN
STREET IN FRONT OF THE SITE OF THE FORMER CHURCHILL HOTEL
WHEREAS, the Streets and Garbage Committee of the Canton City Council has
determined that it is necessary, desirable and in the best interest of the City of Canton to
eliminate a handicapped parking space on the West side of South Main Street in front of
the site of the former Churchill Hotel; and,
WHEREAS, the space is in excess of the required handicapped parking spaces
required in the downtown area and was for the convenience of the patrons of the
Retiree's Club formerly located in the now razed Churchill Hotel but now at a different
location; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That the City Council hereby finds the foregoing recitals to be fact.
2. That the handicapped parking space on the West side of South Main Street in
front of the site of the former Churchill Hotel south of Elm Street is hereby eliminated.
3. That all ordinances, or portions of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance
are hereby rescinded and repealed.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by
the Mayor thereof, and publication in pamphlet form as provided by law.
5. That the Street Superintendent shall cause the handicapped parking sign to be
removed.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 16 day of May , 2000, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Hartford, Sarff, Phillips, Niidffer, Shores, May,
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: E17-dew 1`'bll.eck, Meade.
