HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #2090 - eliminating the two hour parking restriction on chestnut between first avenue and east side square ORDINANCE NO 2090 AN ORDINANCE ELIMINATING THE TWO (2) HOUR PARKING RESTRICTION ON CHESTNUT STREET BETWEEN FIRST AVENUE AND EAST SIDE SQUARE, IN THE CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS WHEREAS, at the request of the City Council, the Canton Police Department examined the time limit parking on Chestnut Street between First Avenue and East Side Square; and WHEREAS, after investigation, the Canton Police Department determined that due to growth in the area that employees and patrons of downtown businesses have a need for parking that extends beyond two (2) hours during the normal business day; and WHEREAS, after investigation, the Canton Police Department determined that extended parking could occur on Chestnut Street between First Avenue and East Side Square during normal business hours without creating traffic or parking congestion in the downtown; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is necessary and in the best interest of the citizens of Canton, Illinois, to eliminate the two (2) hour parking restriction on Chestnut Street between First Avenue and East Side Square during normal business hours; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows: 1. That Section 9-10-2(D)(2) of the Canton Municipal Code is hereby amended as follows: (D) Parking Motor Vehicles In The Business District And In City Parking Lots: 2. Parking spaces or stalls shall be marked and designated as hereinafter set forth within the business district, for the parking of motor vehicles, and except as otherwise provided, it shall be unlawful for any person to park any motor vehicle within any such parking spaces or stalls for more than finro (2) consecutive hours between the hours of nine o'clock (9:00) A.M. and five o'clock (5:00) P.M. of any weekday (excepting only of such national holidays as may be determined and promulgated by the congress or president of the United States). It shall be lawful, however, for anv person to park any motor vehicle within anv such parkinq spaces or stalls for more than two (2) consecutive hours between the hours of nine o'clock (9:00) A.M. and five o'clock (5:00) P.M. of any weekdav on Chestnut Street between First Avenue and East Side Square. However, all day parking shall be permitted in parking lots owned by the city for the use and convenience of the public for parking motor vehicles therein, but it shall be unlawful for any person to park any motor vehicle in any parking lot owned by the city between the hours of eleven o'clock (11:00) P.M. and six o'clock (6:00) A.M. on any day except for physicians on emergency calls. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and publication as provided by law.
