City Hall

Canton II 61520
In attendance: Mayor Kevin Meade, City Clerk Diana Pavley, Commissioner Mike Freeman,
East Side Liquor Store Owner Bipin Patel, James McGinnis
Mayor Meade called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm for the purpose of:
Discuss, consider and vote on punishment for allegations that East Side Liquors sold alcohol to a
minor
McGinnis explained that the night that he sold alcohol to a minor he had a son at home that
was having seizures and he was trying to find someone to cover his shift. McGinnis explained
that his mind was not with his job like it should have been and apologized for selling the alcohol
to the minor. Mayor Meade explained that typically the fine would be $500.00 for the
violation, however he would offer another option of paying the Canton Union School District
$250.00 for their drug and alcohol program. Bipin Patel agreed to the offer of the $250.00 to
the school district. A check was issued payable to the Canton Union School District.
Motion and second were made by Mayor Meade/Mike Freeman to waive the $500.00 fee for
the City of Canton in lieu of a check being issued directly to the Canton Union School District for
$250.00 for their drug and alcohol program.
The Motion Carried.
Mayor Meade explained that he has been awhile since McGinnis sold alcohol to a minor so he
would not recommend revoking his bartender license, however if it were to happen again his
license would be revoked.
Adjournment
Motion and second were made by Mike Freeman/Mayor Meade to adjourn the meeting.
