A regular meeting of the Canton Fire and Police Commission was held on October 13, 2011.
The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m. by Commissioner Jump.
Present: Commissioner Harold Jump Police Chief Dan Taylor
Commissioner Chad Mayall Fire Chief Keith Frank
Absent: Commissioner Melani Sepich
A Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Jump to accept the
minutes of the September 8, 2011 meeting. All Ayes, motion carried.
A Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Jump to accept the
September budget. All Ayes, motion carried.
Training certificates: Certificates from the police department were reviewed and placed on file.
Old Business
Probationary Employees: Probationary police officer Nick Williamson is doing well on his
own on second shift. Darren Donald and Ian McDowell are still at the Police Academy. A
review packet for Firefighter Blake Flickinger was presented for his file.
Bills: Six bills were presented for commission approval: To the Law Office of John Broihier in
the amount of $517.50; to IWIRC in the amount of $730.15 for a physical and vaccine for Ian
McDowell; to I/O Solutions in the amount of $229.00 for 2 Fire AC Chief tests; to Campion,
Barrow & Associates in the amount of $395.00 for a psychological exam for Ian McDowell; to
the IL Fire and Police Commissioners' Association in the amount of $730.00 for registration
costs for Comm. Jump and Mayall to attend the fall conference; and to Elam Private Detective
Agency in the amount of $60.00 for serving of one more subpoena in the J. Smith Hearing. A
Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Jump to pay the bills.
All Ayes, motion carried.
Testing Cycles: The Fire AC promotional is completed except for totaling of the scores and
posting. The commission discussed the correct procedure for computing scores according to
the rules and regulations and then totaled the scores. Carol will put the results into a list to post
and email it to Chief Frank to post at the fire house.
Regarding the Police Initial, the commissioners decided to begin the process asap with
advertising the packet release. The date of December 17th was selected for Orientation and the
physical ability test. The YMCA will be the first choice of locations. Dan will look into who
will run the testing this year, Sergeant Inmon or one of our now-trained officers.
New Business:
Discussion of HB 1576 was tabled until next month.
Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Jump seconded by
Commissioner Mayall to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at
4:00 p.m.
