AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A STOP SIGN ON THIRD AVENUE AT THE
INTERSECTION OF MAPLE STREET AND THIRD AVENUE IN THE CITY OF CANTON,
FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Legal and ordinance Committee has determined that it is necessary and in the
best interest of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to place a stop sign on Third Avenue at the intersection
of Maple Street and Third Avenue in the City of Canton, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE C'ITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That a stop sign shall be placed at the northwest corner of the intersection of Maple Street and
Third Avenue and that every driver of a motor vehicle approaching said intersection from the
North proceeding South shall bring thE~ vehicle under his or her control to a complete stop
before entering said intersection and s~all only then proceed when a safe interval occurs in
traffic.
2. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon conviction or plea, be subject to a fine
of not less than Seventy-five ($75.00) nor more than Five Hundred ($500.00) dollars for each
such offense.
3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after its passage by the City
Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and
publication in pamphlet form as provi~ied by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of C'anton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this
Sth day of July, 2011 upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Schenck, Pasley, F'ritz, West, Nelson, Ellis, Pickel, Hartford
