AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 11 (LAKE CANTON) OF TITLE 8(PUBLIC
WAYS AND PROPERT~
WHEREAS, the Lakes, Buildings and Grounds Committee has determined that it is
necessary and in the best interests of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to amend Chapter 11 (Lake
Canton) of Title 8(Public Ways and Property) to update ordinances regarding Canton Lake; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the foregoing recitals of fact are found to be true.
2. That Chapter 11 (Lake Canton) of Title 8(Public Ways and Property) of the
Canton Municipal Code shall hereby be amended to read as follows:
8-11-9: CLOSE ROADS NEAR LAKE:

The roads adioininq the lake, commonly referred to as the "inlet" and "outleY' road, pate
entrance to Zink Farm will be closed seasonally from November 15t to March 1St of
each year. The qates may be closed at other times under the direction of the Public
Works Director, if necessarv for public safetv.
8-11-10: NO TRESPASSING NEAR LAKE:
No person shall enter anv area marked with no trespassinq siqns, includinq, but not
limited to the area south of the spillway for Lake Canton and north of the public highway
running east and west south of Lake Canton; "
the dam, fields where bio-solids have been applied and the Kilroy lift station.
No person shall move, mark, deface or destroy any sign placed on or around Lake
Canton.
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this section shall be subject to a
fine not less than seventv-five dollars ($75.00) nor more than five hundred dollars
($500.00).
8-11-22: RULES & REGULATIONS ROADWAYS AND PARKING:
8-11-22-1: NO PARKING PLACES:
It shall be unlawful to permit anv vehicle to stand at anv time anywhere other than
followina places, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in
comqliance with the directions of a policeman or traffic control device•
(A) Campground
(B) Desiqnated Parking Areas
(C) Sites marked with "Roadside Parking" siqns
8-11-21-2: NO OVERNIGHT PARKING:
Except for vehicles reqistered to a licensed user of the Camqground no overniqht
parkina occur between the hours of eleven o'clock (11:00) P M and six o'clock (6~00)
A.M.
8-11-21-3: SPEED RESTRICTIONS:
It shall be unlawful to drive any motor vehicle on anv city owned street at Canton Lake
at a speed in excess of twentv (20) miles per hour Appropriate signs shall be posted
showinq such speed limits.
The fact that the speed of a vehicle does not exceed the applicable maximum speed
limit does not relieve the driver from the dutv to decrease speed when approachinq and
crossinq an intersection, when approaching and goinq around a curve when
approachina a hillcrest, when travelinq upon any narrow or windinq roadwav or when
special hazards exist with respect to pedestrians or other traffic by reason of weather or
hiqhwav conditions; and speed shall be decreased as mav be necessary to avoid
collidinq with anv person or vehicle on or entering the highwav in compliance with leqal
requirements and the dutv of all persons to use due care.
8-11-21-4: PENALTY:
Anv person violatinQ any provision of this title shall be fined not less than five dollars
($5.00) or more than two hundred dollars ($200.00) for each offense.
8-11-24: RULES & REGULATIONS. LITTER & TRASH
It shall be illeaal for anv individual to dump, abandon, deposit dismantle or burn upon anv
public propertY or riqht-of-wav, hiqhway, park, street, parkwav or waters of the City anv
trash, litter, qarbaae, ashes, iunk, junk or wrecked motor vehicles or parts thereof or
miscellaneous waste.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting
this 6 th day of May , 2011 upon a roll call vote as follows:
