ORDINANCE NO. 1724
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING 7-3-2 AND 7-3-3 OF TITLE 7 AND AMENDING
8-18-1, 8-18-4 AND 8-18-6 OF TITLE 8 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO GARBAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, the Streets and Gazbage Committee has determined that it is
necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton to amend 7-3-2 and 7-3-3 of Title
7 and amending 8-18-1, 8-18-4 and 8-18-6 of Title 8 of the Canton Municipal Code; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the foregoing recitals aze hereby found to be fact.
2. That, accordingly, Titles 7-3-2, 7-3-3 and Title 8-18-1, 8-18-4 and 8-18-6 of
the Canton Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
7-3-2: DEFINITIONS: For the purpose of classification of the vazious types of
refuse included in the subsequent sections of this Chapter the word "gazbage"
as used herein shall be construed to include rejected or waste household food
and offal. It shall be taken to mean and include all table and kitchen refuse of
every kind and description, also decaying vegetables or meats, or anything
whatsoever that will or may decompose or become offensive or dangerous to
health.
RUBBISH: As hereby repeal the words: chips, sticks, and leaves.
ASHES: As hereby repealed and not be replaced with a new version.
7-3-3: GARBAGE CONTAINERS: Except for flattened cartons and boxes, all
garbage and rubbish shall be placed in containers, cans and bags approved by
the Streets and Traffic Committee, provided that all garbage as defined in this
Chapter shall be drained of liquid, and deposited in a water tight container
with a tight fitting cover.
8-18-1: SERVICE CHARGE: The Canton City Council hereby establishes a service
charge, to finance the establishment and maintenance of plants for the
collection and disposal or solely for the collection or solely for the disposal of
gazbage by a service chazge of $6.00 per month to be collected from persons
receiving such service.
8-18-4: BILLINGS AND COLLECTION: Qualified personnel appointed
by the Mayor and Council shall render bills and collect moneys for service for
all rates and charges in connection therewith. All revenues and moneys
derived from said service charge shall be kept separate and apart from water
department funds and said sum, without any deducting whatever, shall be
delivered to the City Treasurer once a month after receipt of the same, or at

such more frequent intervals as may from time to time be directed by the
Mayor and Council.
8-18-6: GUIDELINES, RULES AND REGULATIONS: As hereby repeal "not in
excess of "and replace with "to properly fund".
4. That this Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage by
the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and approval
by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular
meeting this 19th day of ~~ , 2002, upon a roll call vote as follows:
