AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A STOP SIGN AT THE SOUTHEAST
CORNER OF SOUTH FOURTH AVENUE AND OAK STREET IN THE CITY OF
CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it is
necessary and in the best interest of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to place a stop sign at
the Southeast Corner of Fourth Avenue and Oak Street in the City of Canton, Illinois;
and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That a stop sign shall be placed at the Southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and
Oak Street in the City of Canton, Illinois, and, that every driver of a motor
vehicle approaching said intersection on Fourth Avenue for northbound traffic
shall bring the vehicle under his or her control to a complete stop before
entering said intersection and shall only then proceed when a safe interval
occurs in traffic.
2. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon conviction, be
subject to a fine of not less than Seventy-five ($75.00) nor more than Five
Hundred Dollars ($500.00) for each such offense.
3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effective ten (10) days after its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois,
approval by the Mayor thereof, and publication in pamphlet form as provided
by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 21~t day of o~tnhPr , 2003, upon a roll call vote as
follows:
