The gentleman stated Miss Ella Dixon, Miss Ella Wheeler, and Miss Brooklyn Denis who work for the park district happen to be driving by and stopped because they saw that there was a potentially dangerous situation occurring. The woman got out of the car and helped the gentleman get the child to safety. The gentleman wanted to express gratitude to the ladies for pulling over to help as did Mayor McDowell. There has been a lot of confusion about the mandatory totes. Mayor McDowell wanted to clarify that this is not finalized and is something that is a work in progress. The city is continuing to look into all avenues. The mandatory totes are being put on hold until council can sit down together to discuss options. The city is however, asking the public to continue to buy totes. The Mayor would like for totes to be mandatory because it helps the city look more uniformed and aesthetically pleasing as well as easier on the city workers. Around 8:00 pm, the wastewater plant had power failures which burned up equipment. When the new plant is underway, there will be generators installed to prevent this from happening again. The next two meetings will be with teachers and then Spoon River Partnership contributors. The highest priorities have been residential programs such as housing development/addressing properties that are in disrepair and downtown revitalization with a possible façade program.
