WHEREAS, the Planning Commission of the City of Canton,
Illinois, has recommended to the City Council of the City of
Canton, Illinois, that steps be taken by the City Council to
alleviate the congestive traffic conditions which exist in the
North part of the city and adjacent territory, and, particular-
ly on North Main Street;
AND WHEREAS, North Main Street is the only outlet for said
traffice North of Birch Street, in the Northwest part of the Cit ;
AND WHEREAS, because of the location of the Canton High
School in the North. part of Canton, the establishment of a mar-
ket center in the same vicinity, the developement of several
residential additions North of said. Birch Street, and. the build-
ing of scores of new and valuable residences in said vicinity;
AND WHEREAS, it appears from said report and. from the
knowledge that has been given to the Council and has come to its
attention, that in order to remedy the traffic congestion in the
North part of the City on several streets North of the Public
Square in the City of Canton that the Council take steps to pro-
vide for other outlets for said traffic;
AND W~IEREAS, because of such conditions it is necessary
for the safety of people driving North of said Birch Street that
the Council take such action as possible to acquire dedications
or deeds of property for said. streets, some of which shall be
outside of the City Limits of the City of Canton, at such times
as it shall be for the best interest of the City of Canton, over
a period of time commensurate with the need of the City;
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City
of Canton, Illinois, at this regular meeting time of the Council,
that the City Council take such steps as necessary to open up
a street adjacent to and East of the termination of the present
limits of Linden Street from Linden Street to the West side of
Right-of-Way of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad Co-
mpany, and from East Birch Street along the West side of said
Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Right-of-Way so as to connect
with the extension of said Linden .Street, and furthermore to
take such action as may be feasible for the extension of said
Street from Birch Street North along the said Chicago, BurlingtoY
and Quincy Right-of-Way to the South line of the property of the
Canton Country Club.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that it is not the intention
of the Council to fix a time limit on these projects, but to take
such action from time to time as will be for the best interest
of the City of Canton and at such times as shall be economically
advisable.
