RESOLUTION
Whereas the CANTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE is pledged
to promote the civic pride and progress of the City of Canton, and
Whereas the Board of Directors of the Canton Chamber of
Commerce has selected certain undertakings which it believes would benefit
the City of Canton and surrounding territory,.
Now Therefore,. Be it resolved that the Canton Chamber of
Commerce recommends to the City Council of the City of Canton that action
be taken by said Council in the very near future to accomplish the following
programs
I. Development of North Fourth Avenue and Linden Street
projects as a by-pass and to relieve traffic congestion on North Main Street.
II. Sponsorship and Support of a City-wide tree planting
program for the replacement of the many trees lost as a result of the Dutch
Elm disease.
III. Immediate repair of the C. B. & Q and the T. P. & W.
railway crossings within the Canton City limits.
IV. Immediate extension of the Mercury Vapor street
lighting facilities as outlined by the Central Illinois Public Service Company
plan which has been submitted to the City Council.
V. Sponsor and provide assistance to property owners for
installation of new sidewalks and repair of existing sidewalks on North Main
Street to the City limits.
