Edwards Way th 50 North 4 Avenue, Canton, Il 61520 A regular meeting of the Canton City Council was held on May 7, 2024 (6:30pm) at the Historic th Depot located at 50 North 4 Avenue Canton Illinois. STAFF IN ATTENDANCE: Mayor Kent McDowell, City Clerk Andi Walters, Treasurer Crystal Wilkinson, Fire Chief Scott Roos, Police Chief Michael Eveland, Street Superintendent Dash Wilson, Utility Director Joe Carruthers, City Engineer Keith Plavec MEDIA IN ATTENDANCE: Fulton Democrat MEETING CALLED TO ORDER PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE OPENED THE MEETING INVOCATION – Mayor Kent McDowell ROLL CALL Yes No Absent Alderperson Gossett x Alderperson x Lingenfelter Alderperson Ketcham x Alderperson Hale x Alderperson Grimm x Alderperson Lovell x Alderperson Nelson x Alderperson x Chamberlin ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO THE AGENDA: PUBLIC PARTICIPATION: MAYORAL COMMUNICATIONS/REQUESTED ACTION: Mayor McDowell gave his condolences to the Meade family and held a moment of silence. Mayor gave thanks to the Public Works department as they have been doing a great job, as they have been keeping up with the streets and getting holes filled. Mayor received a phone call earlier in the week from the school superintendent Derenzy with the school district explaining there was a situation at Lincoln School and that our police department handled it expeditiously, jumping into action and getting the situation under control. CITY CLERK COMMUNICATIONS /REQUESTED ACTION: DEPARTMENT HEAD COMMUNICATIONS/REPORTS: Police Chief Mike Eveland also talked about Public Works and how they’ve been working so hard to mow, despite the complaints the PD has received. Fire Chief Scott Roos explained the training his fire crew did with the staff at Graham Hospital along with Alderman Patrick Ketcham, going over exit plans in the event of a fire and talking about everyone’s roles. Public Utilities Director Joe Carruthers scheduled a pre-construction meeting with contractors for the sidewalk on Main Street, so within the next couple of weeks there will be a meeting with the business owners to make provisions for parking along with lane changes and sidewalk usage. COMMITTEE REPORTS: PUBLIC SAFETY AND LEGAL ALDERPERSON JUSTIN NELSON, CHAIR REGULATORY AND POLICY ALDERPERSON ANGELA HALE, CHAIR APPROVAL OF A SPECIAL EVENT ROAD CLOSURE REQUEST FROM BREW-N-CUE FOR FUZZY BEE’S FAMILY FUN DAY TO BE HELD SATURDAY, JUNE 8. All the paperwork was turned in, and everything was in order. Fuzzy Bee’s is the wrestling team. Motion and second were made by Alderpersons Ketcham/Hale for approval of a special event road closure request from Brew-N-Cue for Fuzzy Bee’s Family Fun Day to be held Saturday, June th 8. APPROVAL OF A SPECIAL EVENT ROAD CLOSURE FROM JACK’S BAR FOR THE REBEKAH GRIGSBY BENEFIT TO BE HELD SATURDAY, JUNE 15. Everything was in order, with all the paperwork turned in. Motion and second were made by Alderpersons Gossett/Hale for approval of a special event road th closure from Jack’s Bar for the Rebekah Grigsby Benefit to be held Saturday, June 15.
