CITY CLERK COMMUNICATIONS /REQUESTED ACTION: DEPARTMENT HEAD COMMUNICATIONS/REPORTS: Fire Chief Scott Roos wanted to give a reminder on space heaters and their safety and advised that they are directly plugged into the walls and not power strips. Public Utility Director Joe Carruthers gave an update on the lead for the leak detection. There were three items found last month by satellite detection and those three watermain breaks were calculated based on the PSI, the size, and the type of break. They were running about 250,000 gallons a day. They had been leaking underground through some drainage culverts going to streams. It is unknown how long this had been going on for. Two of the breaks amounted to a significant percentage of our water being lost. Calculations were made based on the cost of water a day and it roughly amounted to $13,000 for that type of loss. It made an impact on our water that was unaccounted for by approximately 5%. Carruthers wanted to thank the team and Keith Plavec for all of their help.
