Public Safety & Traffic Committee

The police report was first on the agenda. Mike Elam stated the
report was self explanatory and noted that the arrests are down and
citations remain over 100 again this month. No action was necessary on
the report at this time.
Mike Elam stated that he will be attending a 911 meeting next
Wednesday and will be expressing the need for additional dispatchers.
He stated he would like to have the support of the City Council to
stress the need to the 911 board. He stated he will also be bringing
up training needs for the dispatchers. Jim Elson stated that due to
recent supreme court rulings, the city could be held responsible for
response times to other matters besides the 911 calls. Orders of
protection is one example. Discussion followed. Mayor Edwards stated
he will provide Mike Elam with a letter to take to the 911 board
concerning the need for additional dispatchers.
The next item on the agenda was the fire report. Michael Jackson was
not in attendance and no report was available.
The ESMA report was next. Howard Williams was not in attendance and
no report was available.
No further action was taken by the Committee and the Public Safety and
Traffic Committee was adjourned.
Streets and Garbage Committee

The first item of discussion was addressed by Mayor Edwards. He
stated that MSD is inviting bids for used pipe and fittings. He has
sent a letter to MSD outlining some of the city's needs, particularly
if the city does dredging at the lake. He has not received a response
from MSD on this matter.

The first item was the cleaning bids. The previously received bids
were not discussed. Mike Elam presented a proposal developed by Clif
O'Brien suggesting that part time person be hired at $6.05 per hour
for 35 hours for the cleaning of the three buildings. This would be
slightly higher that last years cost of $10,320. Discussion followed
on the possibility of this person being available to assist George
Spahn in his/her spare time. Discussion followed. A motion was made
by Chet Phillips and seconded by Joanne Shores recommending apart
time person be hired by the City at $6.05 per hour for 35 hours to
clean the buildings. Voice vote. Motion carried.
No further business was on the agenda and the Lake, Buildings and
Grounds Committee was adjourned.
Public Works - Water and Sewer Committee

Harlan Bannister addressed the Committee concerning the construction
of a building for the bar screen at the sewer plant. Four quotes have
been received for the building. They were: Alexander Lumber -
$22,000; Raglan - $25,225; Wicks - $26,527; and Morton - $29,600.
Discussion. This matter will be brought before the City Council for
consideration.
