HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-24-1998 Mechanical Mechanical Committee City Council Chambers November 24, 1998 - 6:30 p.m. hers Present: Jim May, JoAnn Shores, Jim Hartford, Chet Phillips ~ Present: James Elson, Clif OBrien, Steve White, George Spahn, Chief Elam, Orwig, Linda Caudle, Jim Snider, John Froehling, Chris Clayton Public Safety & Traffic Committee Jo Anne Shores, Chairman Chief Elam informed committee that a written fire report was not presented due to two staff members still working on their reports. Chief Elam presented the written police report and added that there were over 200 traffic citations last month. The Police Department will have another Citizen's Police Academy in January and applications are now available for the academy. Chief Elam requested permission to send a police lieutenant and himself to the Southern Police Institute Professional Development Program in Springfield February 1-5, 1999 at a total estimated cost of $2,110.00 which covers tuition, lodging and meals. Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman Hartford to approve this request. Voice vote, motion carried. Jim Snider reported that both vehicles sold at the city auction last Saturday. The approximate total brought in by the auction was $3300. He also reported that he and Clark Wilson attended a Brownfield Conference last week in Los Angeles and made several good contacts. Mayor Edwards stated that the tax levy ordinance will be coming to the next council meeting as originally proposed for the 1st reading. Greenwood Cemetery's shortage of funds will be taken from the City's General Fund. No further business was discussed and the committee adjourned. Streets & Garbage Committee Chet Phillips, Chairman Mayor Edwards informed the committee that Clif O'Brien and his staff have moved the drop box for the water bill payments from the Fulton Square Lot to the 2nd Avenue Side of City Hall. It will be ready for use by noon Wednesday. There was no further business to be discussed under Streets and Garbage, and the committee adjourned. '`'~ Lake, Buildings & Grounds Committee Jim Hartford, Chairman No bid proposals were received by the City Clerk for the City property advertised for sale on East Elm Street. Linda Caudle reported that a person was interested in the development of a city owned lot at the corner of East Walnut Street and Van Buren Court. The lot size is 82.5" by 165' and is zoned B-3. This lot is located south of Sunset Manor Nursing Home. Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman Shores to advertise for bid proposals for this lot and bring an ordinance for the sale of the property to the next council meeting. Voice vote, motion carried. Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman May to approve the final pay request from J.F. Brennan on contract #2 for the spillway repairs in the amount of $42,171.20 to come from the lake development account. Voice vote, motion carried. No fiuther business was discussed and the committee adjourned. Public Works, Water & Sewer Committee Jim May, Chairman Steve White submitted bills for maintenance on the 50 hp pump at the water plant in the amount of $2,291.95 to come out of the general budget.
