HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-22-1999 Mechanical Mechanical Committee City Council Chambers June 22, 1999 - 6:30 p.m. Members Present: Chet Phillips, JoAnne Shores, Jim Hartford, Jim May Others Present: Mayor Edwards, Jim Elson, Bob Molleck, Steve White, Chief Elam, Chief Stanko, Gary Orwig, Clif O'Brien, Linda Caudle, Jim Snider, Harlan Banister, John Froehling, Chris Clayton Public Safety & Traffic Committee Jo Anne Shores, Chairman Chief Stanko presented the monthly written fire report which included the activities of the ESDA. Three ESDA volunteers are currently attending a conference, funded by IEMA, and Chief Stanko will be attending a conference July 7th, 8th, & 9th also funded by IEMA. Chief Elam presented the written police report noting there were over 100 criminal arrests and over 200 citations written last month. He requested an executive session at the end of the meeting for the purpose of discussing personnel in the police department. No other business was discussed and the committee adjourned. Streets & Garbage Committee Chet Phillips, Chairman The petition from the residents in the 1600 block of East Myrtle was discussed. At the last meeting it was decided to correct their problem, however, Attorney Jim Elson said he needs to establish ownership of two additional properties and is concerned also about the ownership in the ravine that runs behind the houses. Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman Hartford to allow Attorney Jim Elson to move forward to obtain the necessary information. Voice vote, motion carried. The committee discussed a petition from the residents in the 300 block of South Main regarding an alley that runs North and South between South Main and 1st Avenue. The residents are wanting dust control of the alley and snow removal for this winter. Clif O'Brien stated that he would first need to put down a good base and could possibly oil and chip it next year at a cost between $800 and $1,000. Motion by Alderman Hartford, second by Alderman Shores to allow Clif O'Brien to place grindings on the alley. Voice vote, motion carried. Clif O'Brien stated that Gabby Days went well and he thanked the Illinois River Correctional Center for allowing their work crews to assist. He noted crews picked up an additional 130 tons at a cost of $3,000 for landfill fees. As an informational item he said that the MFT Ordinance will come before the next council meeting. There was no further business discussed under Streets and Garbage, and the committee adjourned. Lake, Buildings & Grounds Committee Jim Hartford, Chairman Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman Shores to open the bids for road work at Canton Lake and the wastewater treatment plan. Voice vote, motion carried. One bid was received and read aloud as follows: Pschirrer Asphalt, bid #1 which includes Lakeshore Drive - $6,000, Boat Dock Drive - $9,750, boat dock north lot - $3,100 and south lot - $3,100 for a total of $21,950 if all sections are accepted. Bid #2 was for the wastewater treatment plant for $6,628. Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman May to refer the bids to staff for review. Voice vote, motion carried. Alderman Hartford discussed additional work that needs to be done at the Depot which includes insulating and ventilation of the roof and heating the crawl space. Quotes will be coming before the committee at a later date. Mayor Edwards reported that the city received a request to purchase the motor home at the lake which has been abandoned for over a year. The bill for the rent has not been paid. Steve White was advised to start the process for obtaining a junk title and to pursue selling the abandoned motor home. No further business was discussed and the committee adjourned. Public Works, Water & Sewer Committee Jim May, Chairman No items were on the agenda to be discussed under Alderman May's Committee. Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman Shores to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel in the police department. Roll Call Vote. Ayes: Aldermen Molleck, May, Shores, Phillips, Hartford. Motion unanimous. The committees reconvened in open session for the purpose of adjournment. No other action taken.
