Absent: Alderman Kevin Meade. Other Aldermen Present: Jim Hartford, Larry Sarff and Craig West. 'Others Present: Mayor Jerry Bohler, City Clerk Nancy Whites, City Attorney Ron Weber, City Treasurer Patty Beaird Franzoni, Public Works Director Clif O'Brien, Water Supt Greg Pollitt, Wastewater Supt Joe Carruthers, Police Chief Donald Edwards, Fire Chief John Stanko, Street Supt George Spahn, System Maintenance Supt Bill Terry, Zoning Official Clark Wilson, Joe Ginger Video Service, Rick Reed Alderman Elect, Daily Ledger John Froehling, and Mrs. Goldfelner of 11"' Avenue. (she wanted to discuss a ditch that has water in it, before the meeting started. Mayor Bohler told her to talk with Clif O'Brien) Public Safety & Traffic Committee Robert Molleck, Chairman Mayor Bohler called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with introduction of each committee and chairman. Fire Report. Fire Chief John Stanko, talked about alarms being increased by 95.2% due to citizens burning their yard waste. The department is working for Federal Grant funds for the Assistance to Fire Fighters grant program. The program has $750 million available in direct grants to fire departments. John said they have applied for funds to purchase six (6) replacement breathing apparatus, install a diesel exhaust emissions system in the station, and implement a fire fighter health and wellness/fitness program. Grants are supposed to be awarded by the end of this year. Scott Roos was presented with the Canton Rotary Club Fire Fighter of the Year award on March 12, 2003. A citizens committee formed and began working on a fundraising campaign to purchase a hand-held thermal imaging camera for the department. A goal of $15,600 was set to purchase the camera. Alderman Hartford thanked John for seeking grants to help in funding some of the departments equipment. He also congratulated Scott Roos for his recognition and thanked the Rotary Club for sponsoring this award. Alderman Molleck, thanked John for a very good report. Police Report. Police Chief Donald Edwards, mentioned that activity has gone up higher that the last 2 years during this same time period. Drug activity last month, 165 grams of marijuana, '/z gram cocaine, '/z gram meth, 4 drug paraphernalia pipes, (1) 1995 Mercury 2 door car. Don said the officers are doing an excellent job controlling the streets. Alderman Molleck and Hartford thanked Don for a very good report. The committee adjourned at 6:36 p.m. Streets & Garbage Committee Jo Anne Shores, Chairman No report. The Committee meeting adjourned at 6:36 p.m. Lake, Buildings & Grounds Committee Les Carl, Chairman Lake Clean Up Report - Apri112. Alderman Les Carl gave his report for that day. A total of 18 people showed up and did an outstanding job. Four ton of trash was picked up which included over 60 sacks and 37 tires. The Boat Dock area was the target area to clean and was sectioned off into 10 sections and people were assigned to a particular area. Mel Harris gathered and carried 75 lbs of beer bottles up a hill. Les thanked all that came to help. The committee has talked about making this an annual event. Water Treatment Superintendent Greg Pollitt said he wanted to thank the Garbage Department for picking up the trash. We just want to make the people aware of what goes on out there. The committee meeting adjourned at 6:42 p.m. Public Works, Water & Sewer Kevin Meade, Chairman Alderman Molleck chaired the meeting for Alderman Meade in his absence. No report. Mayor Bohler reported that next Tuesday being the 5th Tuesday of the month, there will be no meetings of the Committee's or Council. 2 EXECUTIVE SESSION -NEGOTIATIONS, GRIEVANCE & PERSONNEL COMMITTEE -DISCUSS POLICE CONTRACT. Motion and second by Aldermen Sarff/Molleck, to go into executive session to discuss Police Contract. Roll call. AYES - Aldermen Molleck, Hartford, Sarff, West, Carl, Shores. NAYS -None. 6 AYES, 0 NAYS. Motion carried. The Mechanical Committee meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m. Mayor Bohler said he wanted the newly elected officials to attend the Executive Session for Negotiations of Police Contract if this is all right with everyone? Council members did not voiced any objections. There are no written, video or cassette recordings of the executive session due to the Illinois State Statute not requiring the recording of same.
