HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-28-2003 MechanicalMINUTES MECHANICAL COMMITTEE City Council Chambers @ Historic Depot January 28, 2003 - 6:30 p.m. Members Present: Aldermen Robert Molleck, Jo Anne Shores, Les Carl, & Kevin Meade. The other Aldermen present were Jim Hartford, Craig West & Mary Fillingham. Others Present: Mayor Jerry Bohler, City Clerk Nancy Whites, City Treasurer Patty Beaird Franzoni, City Attorney Ron Weber, Fire Chief John Stanko, Police Chief Don Edwards, Public Works Director Clif O'Brien, WWT Supt. Joe Carruthers, Water Plant Supt. Greg Pollitt, Street Supt. George Spahn, System Maintenance Supt. Bill Terry, Zoning Officer Clark Wilson, Joe Ginger Video Services, News media - Daily Ledger John Froehlina. WBYS Tonv Lee. Public Safety & Traffic Committee Robert Molleck, Chairman Fire Report -John Stanko, Chief. John commented about his report, and said the department generated $30,000 income for the month. Alderman Carl asked if that is a normal amount? John answered, the reason so high we received grants, reimbursements, etc. Police Report -Don Edwards, Chief. Don said the calls were down 9%, which is good news for the department. Alderman Hartford commented about the K-9 unit doing good with other agencies. Don said he had officer Rick Nichols write out a report on K-9 Grando, the City has had since 1996. Grando will soon be retired and Don would like for Rick to keep Grando as they have bonded together as a team. Motion and second by Aldermen Molleck/Meade, officer Rick Nichols be allowed to keep K-9 Grando when he is retired. Discussion. Alderman Molleck, commented that K-9 Grando was very impressive. Don said he hope to get another animal. Voice vote, motion carried unanimously. The meeting of Public Safety & Traffic adjourned at 6:38 p.m. Streets & Garbage Committee Jo Anne Shores, Chairman 15 Minute Parking Bruketta Building -Alderman Fillingham. Alderman Fillingham asked for Clif O'Brien to speak about this. Clif reported the total linear footage of the building fronting 1st Avenue is 85 feet. The first door closest to the city parking lot is 10 feet. The second door is 50 feet. The only 15 minute parking that remains is in front of Atlas Camera. Alderman Shores said she observed the 15 minute parking in front of Atlas Camera, and feels what is the point of having it? Police Chief Don Edwards commented that it is very difficult to enforce. The police had talked with the 7 businesses in the area and 3 were against and 4 had no preference. Mayor Bohler said the business could be moving out, lets wait. The Streets & Garbage Committee adjourned at 6:43 p.m. Lake Buildings & Grounds Committee Les Carl, Chairman Lake Improvement -Update. Alderman Carl mentioned that a map of the Boat Dock area was completed. "Master Gardener" has been involved and suggested some removal of old trees and planting of new trees. Also suggested was a nature trail. We're planning a `Volunteer Day' to clean up the lake. Have a number of volunteers already. This will be done in late March early April. The new restroom is near completion, and the siltation dam will be done in April. Gates will be installed to allow no admittance after hours. Mayor Bohler commented that the committee is doing a fantastic job, the road is really nice. Alderman Hartford said at `Youth Acres' the building is totally insulated, and they are making improvements all the time. The Boys and Girls Scouts are utilizing the building and grounds. The Lake, Building & Grounds Committee adjourned at 6:46 p.m. Public Works, Water & Sewer Committee Kevin Meade, Chairman Nothing on the agenda.
