ORDINANCE N0. ~_
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE ACQUISITION OF THE SCHIEK PROPERTY FOR
AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has
adopted a plan for the acquisition of certain property hereinafter
legally described for public purposes, said property being located
in an area found by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois
to be a blighted area, and for the payment of the same;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. It is hereby determined that it is necessary, appropriate and
desirable that the City of Canton shall acquire title to and possession
of the following described real property which said real property is
necessary, required and needed for public purposes and lying wholly
within the limits of the City of Canton, to wit:
Part of Lot 107 in the Original Town of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois, described as follows: Commencing at
the Southwest corner of said Lot, running thence East on
Chestnut Street 28 feet, thence North 113 3/4 feet, thence
West 28 feet to Main Street, thence South to the place
of beginning.
2. That Harlan E. Crouch, Mayor of the City of Canton, Illinois,
and/or his designate, be, and he is hereby authorized, empowered and
directed to negotiate for and on behalf of said City with the owner or
owners of the hereinabove described real property for the purchase thereof
by said City.
3. In the event that the City's offer to purchase is rejected and
the said Mayor is unable to agree with the owner or owners of said property
as to the compensation to be paid therefor, then title to and possession of
said real property legally described in Paragraph 1 of this ordinance shall
be acquired by the City of Canton through condemnation, and John J. McCarthy,
as attorney for the City of Canton, is hereby authorized, empowered and
directed to institute proceedings in any court of competent jurisdiction
to acquire title to and possession of said property for said City in accor-
dance with the eminent domain laws of the state of Illinois.

4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval
by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and
APPROVED by the Mayor thereof this day of 1978.
