ORDINANCE N0. C"t
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 6, CHAPTER 3, SECTION 1-8 OF THE CANTON
MUNICIPAL CODE PROHIBITING LOITERING IN THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS.
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee of the City of
Canton, Illinois has determined that it is necessary to modify and
amend the Loitering Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois
has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. That Title 6, Chapter 3, Section 1-8 of the Canton Munic-
ipal Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"6-3-1-8: LOITERING: Any person found loitering,
strolling or lounging, in, about or upon any street,
street corner, sidewalk, alley, park or other public
way or public place, or at any public gathering or
assembly, or in or around any depot, railroad plat-
form, store, shop, theater, hotel, business or commer-
cial establishment, or on any private property or place
without lawful business shall be deemed guilty of loiter-
ing."
2. Any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon con-
viction, be subject to a fine of not less than twenty-five dollars
($25.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) for each
offense.
3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or
portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconsti-
tutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such portion shall be
deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding
shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions hereof.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect 10
days after its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton,
Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and publication according
to law.
