ORDINANCE N0.
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION IN AND FOR THE
CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS.
WHEREAS, Chapter 24, Section 3-2-3 of the Illinois Revised Statutes
provides, in part, that the corporate authorities shall (1) designate the
place or places in which municipal elections will be held; (2) appoint the
judges thereof; and (3) publish a notice at least once, not more than 30
nor less than 15 days in advance of the election, in one or more newspapers
published in the municipality. This notice shall state the time and places
of election, and the officers to be elected.
NO~~?, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. There shall be a regular election of officers of the City of
Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, on the 17th day of April, 1979.
2. At such election, there shall be elected one alderman for
Ward ~~1 (Northeast Ward), one alderman for Ward X62 (Northwest Ward),
one alderman for Ward 4~3 (Southwest Ward), and one alderman for Ward
4~4 (Southeast Ward). Each of these officers is to serve a four-year term.
The ballot to be used in such election shall be in the form prescribed by
statute; and it shall be the duty of the City Clerk to assure the preparation
of a sufficient number of ballots for the election, to cause a sample of
such ballot to be published prior to the day of the election in the Canton
Daily Ledger; and to provide the necessary election supplies for each
voting ward.
3. For the purpose of said election, the City of Canton shall be
divided into four election wards. The boundaries of such wards, the polling
places for each, and the Judges of Election assigned to each shall be as
hereinafter set forth in this Ordinance.
4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to cause notice of said
election to be given by publishing notice thereof once in the Canton Daily

Ledger, being a newspaper published in and having a general circulation
within the City of Canton. The date of such publication shall not be more
than 30 days nor less than 15 days prior to the date set for said election
and said notice shall be published in substantially the following form:
NOTICE OF ELECTION
PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a regular municipal
election will be held in and for the City of Canton,
Fulton County, Illinois, on Tuesday, the 17th day of
April, 1979, for the purpose of electing the following
officers of such City: one alderman for Ward ~1~1
(Northeast Ward); one alderman for Ward ~~2 (Northwest
Ward); one alderman for Ward ~~3 (Southwest Ward);
and one alderman for Ward 4~4 (Southeast Ward), each
of whom is to serve a term of four years, all as
provided by law. For the purpose of said election,
the City of Canton has been divided into four election
wards, the boundaries of which and the polling place
designated for each being as follows:
WARD ~~1 (NORTHEAST WARD)
Beginning where the northerly corporation line inter-
sects the centerline of North Fourth Avenue in the
City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, running
thence South along the centerline of North Fourth
Avenue to the centerline of East Chestnut Street,
thence East along the centerline of East Chestnut
Street to the easterly corporation line, thence
northerly along the easterly corporation line to
the northerly corporation line, thence westerly
along the northerly corporation line to the place
of beginning.
Polling Place: Charles D. Ingersoll School

WARD ~~2 (NORTHWEST WARD)
Beginning where the northerly corporation line inter-
sects the centerline of North Fourth Avenue in the
City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, running
thence South along the centerline of North Fourth
Avenue to the centerline of East Ash Street, thence
West along tfie centerline of East and West Ash Street
to the centerline of North Avenue B, thence North
along the centerline of North Avenue B to the center-
line of Cass Place, thence West along the centerline
of Cass Place to the westerly corporation line, thence
northerly along the westerly corporation line to the
northerly corporation line, thence easterly along the
northerly corporation line to the place of beginning.
Polling Place: Canton High School

WARD X63 (.SOUTHWEST WARD)
Beginning where the southerly corporation line inter-
sects the centerline of South Main Street in the City
of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, running thence
North along the centerline of South and North Main
Street to the centerline of East and West Ash Street,
thence West along the centerline of West Ash Street
to the centerline of North Avenue B, thence North
along the centerline of North Avenue B to the center-
line of Cass Place, thence West along the centerline
of Cass Place to the westerly corporation line, thence
southerly along the westerly corporation line to the
southerly corporation line, thence easterly along the
southerly corporation line to the place of beginning.
Polling Place: Wallace Park

WARD ~~4 (SOUTHEAST WARD)
Beginning where the southerly corporation line inter-
sects the centerline of South Main Street in the City
of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, running thence
North along the centerline of South and North Main
Street to the centerline of East and West Ash Street,
thence East along the centerline of East Ash Street
to the centerline of North Fourth Avenue, thence
South along the centerline of North Fourth Avenue
to the centerline of East Chestnut Street, thence
East along the centerline of East Chestnut Street
to the easterly corporation line, thence southerly
along the easterly corporation line to the southerly
corporation line, thence westerly along the southerly
corporation line to the place of beginning.
Polling Place: St. Mary's Gymnasium
365 North Third Avenue
Canton, Illinois
The polls at said election will be opened at 6:00 o'clock A.M. and will
be closed at 6:00 o'clock P.M. on the date of the election. Only qualified
and registered voters shall be permitted to vote and voters must vote at the
polling place designated for the election ward within which they reside.

5. The following named persons, each of whom is a citizen of the
United States and is entitled to vote at the election; is of good repute
and character; is able to speak, read and write the English language;
is skilled in the four fundamental rules of arithmetic; is of good under-
standing and is capable; is not a candidate for office at this election
and is not an elected committeeman, and who resides in the ward in which
he or she is selected to act, are hereby appointed Judges of Election for
such election in the wards shown as follows:

6. The ballot for such election shall be in the manner and form as
prescribed by law. Said election shall be held and conducted and the re-
turns thereof duly canvassed, all in the manner and time as provided by law.
7. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval
by the Mayor thereof.
