A regular meeting of the Canton City Council was held on April 4th, 2000 in council
chambers.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE OPENED THE MEETING FOLLOWED BY THE
INVOCATION GIVEN BY NANCY WHITES CITY CLERK.
Mayor Edwards asked for roll call at 6:30 p.m. Present -Aldermen Molleck, Hartford,
Sarff, Phillips, Nidiffer, Shores, May. Absent -Alderman Meade.
MINUTES OF MARCH 21, 2000 MEETING. Motion by Alderman Molleck, second
by Alderman Hartford, the minutes of March 7th, 2000 be placed on file. Voice vote,
motion carried unanimous.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Public Safety & Traffic.
Council Action
Motion by Alderman Shores, second by Alderman Hartford, to send Grando to the
Veterinary School in Champaign for tests and proper treatment due to a seizure, and at
the cost of $400 to $1,000, which includes boarding. Discussion. J. Michael Elam, police
chief mentioned that Grando has had no other problems, but is still being checked. Roll
call. AYES -Aldermen May, Shores, Nidiffer, Phillips, Sarff, Hartford, Molleck. NAYS
- None. 7 AYES, 0 NAYS, 1 ABSENT. Motion carried.
Motion by Alderman Shores, second by Alderman May, to allow Assistant Chief Bonnie
Cremer to attend special training at Eastern Kentucky University June 19th through 23,
and expenses of meals and transportation. (Committee minutes reflect the training will be
funded through a grant from the Department of Justice.) Roll call. AYES -Aldermen
Molleck, Hartford, Sarff, Phillips, Nidiffer, Shores, May. NAYS -None. 7 AYES, 0
NAYS, 1 ABSENT.

Informational: Alderman Hartford thanked the City for adding to the Water Department
bills the collecting of donations for a fireworks display on July 4th. Alderman Hartford
said he has had alot of positive comments on that.
Alderman Nidiffer said he too has had alot of positive comments. He also commented
that "Players Lounge" is willing to host a fund raiser for the fireworks. More details will
be made available later.

COMMUNICATION FROM MAYOR EDWARDS. Mayor Edwards said he has had
several complaints of off road vehicles using city streets, and said he has seen them himself
in the pazk district's property. Last week a young man broke his leg in an off road vehicle
on park ground. They are not made for the highway, and he is asking them to use more
caution and good judgement when driving one.
To donate to the fireworks on water bills is working extremely well. Have received in
excess of $400 in two days. Mayor Edwar hem offht the last fireworks committee might
be willing to order the fireworks and shoot
Police Chief J. Michael Elam reported that his office had given a press release last week
against "Pyramid Scheme" that is supposely going on in Canton. Mike said that no one
has come forwazd and no complaints have come in, so they don't kno 1 ~sto s~reall~ is
going on or not in our community. They are also known as gifting g g•
The police department is asking the public toocmonnt nted that this is a ct~uninah offenseeof
they have been a victim of one. Jim Elson c

The regulaz scheduled council meeting convened into Executive Session at 7:52 p.m.
The minutes of the Executive Session aze on file in the office of the city clerk for review.
ADJOURNMENT: Motion by Alderman Phillips, second by Alderman Sazff, to
adjourn. Voice vote, motion carried unanimously. The regular scheduled council meeting
adjourned at 7:18 p.m.
