A regulaz meeting of the Canton City Council was held on January 4, 2000 in council
chambers.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE OPENED THE MEETING FOLLOWED BY THE
INVOCATION GIVEN BY NANCY WHITES CITY CLERK.
Mayor Edwazds asked for roll call at 6:30 p.m. Present -Aldermen Molleck, Hartford,
Sazff, Phillips, Meade, Nidiffer, Shores, May. Absent -None.
MINUTES OF DECEMBER 21, 1999 MEETING. Motion by Alderman Sazff, second
by Alderman Molleck, the minutes of December 21, 1999 be placed on file. Voice vote,
motion carried unanimously.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
None.
COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR EDWARDS. Mayor Edwazds asked the
citizens to volunteer to help with 4th of July celebration this yeaz. Some funds aze
remaining from last yeaz.
Michael Walters has resigned and so has Ken Long who was appointed last yeaz from the
Greenwood Cemetery Board. The current members of the Boazd aze Pat Werland & Jim
Nelson. (Ken Long replaced Hazold Wilson and Jim Nelson replaced Michael Walters.)
Discussions aze still on-going with the Norwest Bank. By the committee meeting next
week more information may be available.
Motion by Alderman Sazff, second by Alderman Nidiffer, to grant a Class E Package
Store Liquor License to Frank B. Eveland Jr., at 41 North 11th, due to the death of his
father Frank Eveland Sr on 12-29-99 who held the license. Roll call. AYES -Aldermen
~- May, Shores, Meade, Nidiffer, Phillips, Sazff, Hartford, Molleck. NAYS -None. 8
AYES, 0 NAYS, 0 ABSENT. Motion carried.
On New Year's Eve Day the clock tower dedication took place in Jones Pazk at 11:30 a.m.
Mayor Edwards said it was a very moving an emotional event. Mayor Edwazds thanked
Joe Ginger's Video for the taping of the event. Also thanked the committee members of
Hazlan Banister, Linda Caudle, Jo Tracy, Linda Woods, Peter Taraboletti, Bob Molleck,
Chazlie Wright, Dennis Dawson, Bob Smolich. Mayor Edwazds thanked those who
donated the funds and also Cliff O'Brien and his crew. Mayor Edwards paid special
thanks to Linda Caudle for doing alot of work and also sending out thank you's.

NEW BUSINESS:
ORDINANCE -ABATING ALL OF THE BOND LEVY FOR THE 1998-1999
FISCAL YEAR ($1,800,000 Principal Amount Alternate Revenue Bonds Series
1, 1995). First reading, read by title.

Recreation, Inc., c/o Eric Mathews.) Motion by Alderman Molleck, second by

Alderman May, the resolution be adopted. Discussion. Mayor Edwards reported that he
has received numerous complaints about barricading this area for safety reasons in saving
lives as tons of rock could come down. City Attorney Jim Elson reported that a meeting
had taken place last week with the owners. Clark Wilson, zoning officer, stated that an
architectal firm of Phillips & Associates reported that the building was unsafe, and with
that in mind we had to protect the public. All businesses in the building have moved out.
Mayor Edwards said the City will not stop the owners from proceeding on their own to
demolish or repair. The owners of the building will have 30 days after tomorrow before
an order for demolition will take place by the City. Jim Elson said that notices have been
sent to other building owners. Roll call. AYES -Aldermen Molleck, Hartford, Sarff,
Phillips, Nidiffer, Meade, Shores, May. NAYS -None. 8 AYES, 0 NAYS, 1 ABSENT.
Motion carried. Resolution being #3500.
Mayor Edwards thanked all departments heads for the extra time put in, and to those who
came in on New Years' Eve, for any changes that might have occurred going into the new
year that would disrupt the daily services to the public.
Alderman Meade reported that a meeting with the Fire Union will be held Monday 6:30
p.m. at the fire house in executive session for discussion ofdrug/alcohol.
ADJOURNMENT. Motion by Alderman Molleck, second by Alderman Meade, to
adjourn. Voice vote, motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
