HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance # 1897 ORDINANCE NO. 1897 AN ORDINANCE PURSUANT TO ARTICLE 65 ILCS 5/5 et. seq. OF THE ILLINOIS COMPILED STATUTES DIRECTING THAT THE QUESTION "SHALL THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS ADOPT THE MANAGERIAL FORM OF MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT?" BE PLACED ON THE BALLOT FOR DETERMINATION BY THE CITIZENS OF CANTON, ILLINOIS AT THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION. WHEREAS, the City of Canton, Illinois has a population of less than 500,000 inhabitants pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/5-1-1 and does not currently operate under the managerial form of municipal government; and WHEREAS, the City desires to vest itself with the managerial form of government by acting in accordance with the applicable provisions of 65 ILCS 5/5-1-4 through 65 ILCS 5/5-1- 1 I ;and WHEREAS, "Managerial Forms of Municipal Government" have professional staff to assist in regulating for the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare of the community; and, WHEREAS, the City of Canton, Illinois may better serve its citizens with the professional staff and its capabilities; and, WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that the citizens of the City of Canton, Illinois should decide whether or not they want a "Managerial Form of Municipal Government" for their municipality; and WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows: 1. Pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/5-1-4 through 65 ILCS 5/5-1-11 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes it is directed that the question "Shall the City of Canton, Illinois adopt the managerial form of municipal government?" be placed on the ballot for determination by the citizens of the City of Canton, Illinois at the next general election. 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval as provided by law.
