MECHANICAL COMMITTEE
MEETING
Tuesday, December 11, 2007 – 6:30 p.m.

Committee members. Aldermen Eric Schenck, Joe Berardi, Jason
Strandberg, Sonya Lewis.
Other Aldermen in attendance – Larry Sarff, Craig West, David Nidiffer,
Kevin Meade.
Others in attendance – Mayor Rodney W. Heinze, City Clerk Nancy Whites,
City Treasurer Kathy Luker, City Attorney Chrissie Peterson, Police Chief
Jeffrey Fritz, Fire Chief Bonnie Cremer, Public Works Director Cliff
O’Brien, Wastewater Treatment Plant Supt. Joe Carruthers, Water Treatment
Supt. Greg Pollitt, Video Services by Joe Ginger. In the audience for News
Media was John Froheling from Daily Ledger, Mark Bixler from WBYS,
Denise Bankes from Democrat.

POLICE REPORT.
Police Chief Jeffrey Fritz highlighted is report for
the committee meeting.
On Sunday, November 18, 2007 Chief Jeffrey Fritz
instructed a beverage Alcohol Sellers & Servers Education and Training
(BASSET) seminar to 15 employees from the following establishments: Elks
Lodge, Four Seasons Bowl, Outskirts Bar & Grille, and The Water-n-Hole.
Not in his report Chief Fritz commented – Still don’t have printed map of
911 emergency telephone systems. The Board mentioned will not be ready
until sometime in January, 2008.

COMMENTS:
Alderman Meade said had talked about the overtime
before and maybe we need to look at again.
?
Chief Fritz mentioned that Kent McDowell is attending Commend
School once a month and looking at how to help on scheduling.

Alderman Berardi said the over time should go down as hired new
officer.
?
Police Chief Jeffrey Fritz commented, did not hire new employee, the
last officer was hired to replace Randy Zimmerman who retired.
FIRE REPORT.
Fire Chief Bonnie Cremer reported the report will be
available next Tuesday. She mentioned that the department has been very
busy and she was not able to get the report completed by the second
Tuesday.
The Public Safety & Traffic Committee adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
Streets & Garbage

EAST SIDE CHURCH OF NAZARENE ALLEY.
?
COMMENTS:
Alderman Standberg commented that the alley is
located along the back yards of houses on East Spruce in the 800
block. It is a grassy alley not being used, the neighbors mow the yard.
?
David Utt the minister said there are a couple of telephone poles in the
area and they will be buying the house by the alley next week at 805
E. Spruce. All neighbors contacted are in favor and 2 were not
reached. One resident had a concern.

Public Works Director Cliff O’Brien mentioned this is not a water and
sewer alley. There is a overhead utility line.
?
Alderman Sarff ask if any reasonthe City would go down the alley?
?
Public Works Director Cliff O’Brien said, no! The church wants to
build on is the reason for the vacating of the alley.

Engineer Keith Plavec reported-keep 5 to 10 feet strip for easements
as this allows the City to get to the public right-away.

Alderman Sarff said we should have opinion from Ameren before do
anything. As we always look close before vacating an alley.

MOTION:
and second by Aldermen Schenck/Strandberg, to accept
Keith Plavec proposal and refer to council.
The motion carried by voice vote, and was unanimous.

Public Works, Water & Sewer
Alderman Jason Strandberg, Chairman
DISPATCH CHAIR – POLICE CHIEF.
?
Chief Jeffrey Fritz from the last meeting selected the chair for the
Tele-communicators which was a Ergonomic Office/Intensive Use
Chairs. From United Group, Inc. a dealer for Iron Horse Seating
Office Chairs and Back Be Nimble, a dealer for BodyBilt Intensive
Use Chairs. The prices quoted for the chair was $1,1950.00 plus
shipping charges of $50.00.

The Aldermen ask him to look at other chairs as this one seemed
excessive in price.
?
Chief Fritz said he still recommends the same chair after checking on
other sources.

Alderman Sarff said it has to be a good chair, and be comfortable.
?
Alderman Nidiffer commented, that someone sits in the chair 24 hours
a day.

Alderman Lewis said she went on the website and she still has a
problem, as some of these chairs were in $700.00 to $800 range that
would fit the bill.

MOTION:
and second by Aldermen Berardi/Schenck, to approve the
purchase of the chair as recommended from Chief Fritz, and refer to
council.
The motion carried by voice vote, with Alderman Sonya Lewis voting nay.
REPLACEMENT OF FURNACE FOR CLARIFIER BUILDING –
GREG POLLITT.
Water Treatment Supt. Greg Pollitt said he received quotes for an overhead
heater from Season All in the amount of $2,175.00 and was the low quote.

MOTION:
and second by Aldermen Schenck/Strandberg, to approve
the low quote from Season All for an over head furnace for the
Clarifier Building at the Water Plant in the amount of $2,175.00; and
for the insulation and repairs to the flue; and refer to council.
The motion carried by voice vote, and was unanimous.
