ORDINANCE NO. 1833
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 8, CHAPTER 10, SECTION 5
OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO THE WATER RATES
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has determined that it is necessary and in the best
interest of the City of Canton to amend Title 8, Chapter 10, Section 5 of the Canton City Code
relating to water rates;
WHEREAS, it is further necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton to amend
the same title, chapter and section relating to sewer rates.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS, as follows:
1. That the City Council of the City of Canton finds the foregoing recitals to be fact.
2. That Section 5 of Title 8, Chapter 10 of the Canton City Code is hereby amended
to read as follows:
"8-10-5(C): Water Rate Schedule:
Beeinning May 1 2005: The said minimum charge shall be increased to Three Dollars and
fifty cents ($3.50) per month.
Volume Surcharge: In addition to the minimum charge at all times there shall be a
surcharge for water delivered to the customer as measured by the meter on the premises as follows:

Outside Users: All users outside the city limits of the City of Canton shall pay two
hundred percent (200%) of the operation and maintenance and minimum base rates, except as
otherwise provided by the City Council.
8-10-5(D) Sewer Rates: Users of the sewer system of the City of Canton shall be charged
for the use of said sewers and for treatment of said sewage based upon the amount of water used as
measured by water meters as herein above provided.
8-10-5(E) Sewer Service Charge: Each sewer user shall pay a monthly service charge as
follows:
Beainnin~ May 1 2005: Three Dollars and fifty cents ($3.50) per month.
8-10-5(F) Volume Surcharge: In addition to the service charge provided in Section 8-10-
5(E), each sewer user shall pay a volume charge for each month per 100 cubic feet of water based
upon the volume of water used as shown by the water meter as follows:

Sewer users who do not purchase water from the City of Canton shall be charged a volume
surcharge according to the foregoing rates based upon metered water use or metered sewer use (if
available) or by an estimate of water used as determined by the Superintendent.
Said surcharge for water and sewer shall be redetermined prior to May 1, 2009."
3. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage
by the City Council of the City of Canton, approval by the Mayor thereof and publication in
pamphlet form.
