AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 7, CHAPTER 1, SECTIONS 2 AND 3 OF THE CANTON
MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING NUISANCES.
WHEREAS, the Legal & Ordinance Committee of the City of Canton,
Illinois has determined that it is necessary, desirable and to the best
interests of the City of Canton to amend Title 7, Chapter 1, Sections
2 and 3 of the Canton~Municipal Code concerning nuisances; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made
a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. That Title 7, Chapter 1, Section 2 of the Canton Municipal Code
be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"7-1-2: MANURE, SLOPS:
Whoever shall suffer to accumulate on any premises owned or
controlled by him, in the City, any heap or stack of manure,
in such manner as to emit noxious, disagreeable or offensive
odors, to the annoyance or detriment of any person or family,
or whoever shall deposit any such manure, or the contents of
any privy vault, night soil, dead animal, slops or other
filthy, nauseous or filthy substance, likely to become offen-
sive, whether animal or vegetable, in or upon any lot, street,
alley or other public or private place in the City, shall be
deemed guilty of a nuisance, and upon conviction shall be fined
not less than twenty-five dollars ($25.00) nor more than one
hundred dollars ($100.00) for each offense; provided that the
depositing of manure in any alley from any stable opening upon
the same shall not be a violation of this Section if the owner
or user of such stable shall remove the manure so accumulated
as often as once in each week and shall in no case allow the
same to become a nuisance."
2. That Title 7, Chapter 1, Section 3 of the Canton Municipal Code
be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"7-1-3: FOUL CELLARS, VAULTS:
Whoever shall suffer or permit any cellar, basement, vault,
drain, pool, privy, sewer, yard, ground or premises in the
City belonging to or controlled by him, to become from any

cause noxious, foul, offensive or injurious to the public
health, or unpleasant or disagreeable to adjacent residents
or persons shall be deemed guilty of a nuisance, and on
conviction shall be fined not less than twenty-five dollars
($25.00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) in
every case, and a further fine of five dollars ($5.00) for
every day such nuisance shall be allowed to continue after
the first conviction."
3. That the remainder of Title 7, Chapter 1, Nuisances, of the
Canton Municipal Code remain in full force and effect.
4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval
by the Mayor thereof.
