ORDINANCE N0. _
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 6, CHAPTER 1, SECTION 2 (C), (G), (H) AND
(I) OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND
REPEALING TITLE 6, CHAPTER 1, SECTION 3 (C), (Q) AND (U) OF THE CANTON
MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING POLICEMEN.
WHEREAS, the Legal & Ordinance Committee of the City of Canton,
Illinois has determined that it is necessary, desirable and to the best
interests of the City of Canton to modify and amend Title 6, Chapter 1,
Section l (C), (G), (H) and (I) of the Canton Municipal Code concerning
the Chief of Police and to repeal and delete Title 6, Chapter 1, Section
3 (C), (Q) and (U) of the Canton Municipal Code concerning policemen; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made
a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. That Title 6, Chapter 1, Section 2 (C) of the Canton Municipal
Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"6-1-2 (C): Devote Entire Time, Offenders: The Chief
of Police, when on duty, shall devote his entire time
and energy to the discharge of the duties of his office,
and shall see that the laws and provisions of this Code
are enforced as far as possible, and that all offenders
are reported to some proper tribunal for punishment."
2. That Title 6, Chapter 1, Section 2 (G) of the Canton Municipal
Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"6-1-2 (G): Keep Police Record: Said Chief of Police
shall keep, or cause to be kept, books of record of
the Police Department, and of all persons arrested
or committed by the police, showing the time and
place of each arrest, the offense for which the same
was made and the disposition of each case."
3. That Title 6, Chapter 1, Section 2 (H) of the Canton Municipal
Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"6-1-2 (H): Regular Report: The Chief of Police shall
make an oral report to the Mayor on a regular basis of
all business or matters connected with the Police De-
partment."

4. That Title 6, Chapter 1, Section 2 (I) of the Canton Municipal
Code be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"6-1-2 (I): Monthly Reports: The Chief of Police
shall, each month, make a written report to the
Council showing the number of arrests made by the
police force during the preceding month, the dis-
position of the case, the amount of the fine im-
posed, if any, and the amount of such fine collected."
5. That Title 6, Chapter 1, Section 3 (C), (Q) and (U) of the
Canton Municipal Code be, and the same are hereby repealed and deleted
from the Canton Municipal Code.
6. That the remainder of Title 6, Chapter 1, Police Department,
of the Canton Municipal Code remain in full force and effect.
7. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval
by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and
