ORDINANCE NO. 950
AN ORDINANCE COMMITTING THE CITY OF CANTON TO PARTICIPATION UNDER
THE ILLINOIS FIRE PROTECTION TRAINING ACT (P.A. 77-1665, as amended)
WHEREAS, the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois is desirious
of electing to participate in the programs under the Illinois Fire
Protection Training Act, Public Act 77-1665, as amended; and,
WHEREAS, in order for the City of Canton to be eligible for
initial or continued participation in the programs, the law requires
that before an individual may commence regular employment as a fire-
fighter, he must have been certified by the State Fire Marshall as
having successfully completed an approved Firefighter II training
course; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Canton intends to establish its own school
or to utilize some other school certified by the State Fire Marshall
for the purpose of providing the training required under said Act;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the City of Canton hereby elects to participate in the
programs provided for in the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act.
2. That before an individual may commence regular full-time
employment as a firefighter, he must have been certified by•the
Illinois State Fire Marshall as a Firefighter II, as having success-
fully completed an approved training course as provided in said Act.
3. That the Firefighter II training must be completed by the
trainee within his probationary period of 12 months, except for
volunteers, part-time and paid-on-call personnel.
4. That the City of Canton Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
is hereby instructed and directed to make all necessary amendments
to the Personnel Rules, the Manual of Rules of the Canton Fire
Department, and to the Rules of said Board of Fire and Police
Commissioners in order to require that any person appointed to the
City of Canton Fire Department shall not become a regular member of
the City of Canton Fire Department unless and until he shall complete,
pursuant to said Illinois Fire Protection and Training Act, the
approved training course within 12 months of the date of his initial
appointment.
5. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of
Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois at. a regular meeting this 21st day of September ,
1982, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Horr, Larsen, Carl, Grant, Sarff, Savill.

ABSENT: Aldermen Hammond, Kovachevich.
