ORDINANCE N0. 1042
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR STOP SIGNS AT THE INTERSECTION OF NORTH
FIRST AVENUE AND EAST CHESTNUT STREET IN THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS.
WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee of the Canton City
Council has determined that it is necessary to place stop signs at the
intersection of North. First Avenue and East Chestnut Street in the City
of Canton, Illinois; and,
WHEREAS, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That a stop sign shall be placed on the Northwest Corner and
a stop sign placed on the Southeast Corner of North First Avenue and
East Chestnut Street in the City of Canton, Illinois, requiring North-
bound and Southbound traffic on North First Avenue to come to a complete
stop at the intersection of Chestnut Street and First Avenue. And, that
every driver of a motor vehicle approaching said intersection from the
North or South shall bring the vehicle under his control to a complete
stop before entering said intersection and shall only then proceed when
a safe interval occurs in. traffic.
That a stop sign shall be placed on the Northeast Corner and a
stop sign placed on the Southwest Corner of East Chestnut Street and
North First Avenue in the City of Canton, Illinois, requiring Eastbound
and Westbound traffic on East Chestnut Street to a complete stop at the
intersection of First Avenue and Chestnut Street. And, that every
driver of a motor vehicle approaching said intersection from the East or
West shall bring the vehicle under his control to a complete stop before
entering said intersection and shall only then proceed when a safe
interval occurs in traffic.
2. That the Street Superintendent shall post appropriate signs
informing the public of this Ordinance.
3. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon
conviction, be subject to a fine of not less than Five Dollars ($5.00)
not more than Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) for each such offense.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10)
days after its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, publication in pamphlet
form as provided by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton. Fulton County,
Illinois at a regular meeting this 7th day of November , 1984 upon
a roll call vote as follows:
