ORDINANCE NO. 1 p ~ q
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 24(A), CHAPTER 10, TITLE 8 OF THE CANTON
MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO TAP Tr~,TER D'1AINS.
Wf~REAS, the Canton City Council has determined that it is necessary
and in the best interest of the City of Canton to amend Section 24(A),
Chapter 10, Title 8 of the Canton Municipal Code to allow the use of
plastic pipe in water line construction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINID BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAN'T'ON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That Section 24(A), Chapter 10, Title 8 of the Canton Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"8-10-24: TAP WATER MAINS
(A) City Shall Tap Water Mains Before Streets are Paved: In
all paving districts, special service areas or special
assessment districts required to be paved, or, in any other
paved street area in the corporate limits, the City shall,
as soon as practicable, tap said water mains in front of
each building or lot with afive-eighths inch (5/8") tap,
and from such tap lay a connection with athree-quarter
inch (3/4") tubing or pipe made of any of: Type K copper,
or, PVC plastic, Schedule 40, with tracer wire, all in
accordance with the City of Canton Plumbing Code, towards
such building or lot within the curb line at which place
there will be placed a stop box. The said pipe shall be
laid as near as practicable of the same depth as the water
main which it connects but shall not be laid less than four
feet (4') in depth. All the dirt taken from the ditches
made to make such taps, and lay such pipes shall be tamped
back to fit condition for paving, and shall be done as
expeditiously as possible and so as to proceed in advance
of the paving contractors. Either Type K copper or PVC
plastic, Schedule 40, with tracer wire, all in accordance
with the City of Canton Plumbing Code shall be laid from
the curb stop box to the meter in the building served."

2. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately
upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois, and approved by the A7ayor thereof.

1984, upon a roll call vote as follows:
